One time read, but given the subject matter, it kinda pigeonholes itself. Still a good read.
I feel like this could have been about 150 pages shorter and nothing would have been missed. I was totally into this for the first few hundred pages, expecting this to be a 5 star book and then it just drifted on, got a little odd, and ended a bit too easily. Still a good read though.
I am convinced that the book had a much better ending before some editor came along and tried to make it kid-friendly.
There's absolutely no way the world would go back to normal after this. And it felt kind of cheap that it did. Like, everyone survived, even their parents who were assumed dead in the very beginning. There was no reason to bring them back to life--it ruins the impact of everything that came before it.

Dry absolutely earned its five stars. The concept was layered, ambitious, and unsettling in the best way. Set in a normal California suburb during a sudden water crisis (the “Tap-Out”), the story explores not just survival, but the reality of human nature when society collapses.
What stood out most was how emotionally and intellectually deep the book went. It’s not just about water running out—it’s about fear, desperation, and the choices people make when pushed to the edge. Some become selfish, some turn violent, and others cling to connection. The commentary on government inaction was unforgettable.
The one part that bugged me: I got annoyed with the main female character about halfway through. She kept making reckless choices, and it started to wear on me. But by the end, her arc came together in such a powerful way that it erased my frustration. The payoff was worth it.

Mně se doopravdy knihy od Neala S. moc líbí. Hlavně tím, jak se můžou v budoucnu splnit. To se týká jak Smrtky tak i Sucha. Člověka to nutí přemýšlet.
Sucho mě nechytlo tolik jako Smrtka. Něco tomu chybělo. Možná právě to, co předcházelo Bezvodí a pak jak je možné, že na konci voda zase začala téct? To mi děj trošku zkazilo... Smrtka mi v tomhle přijde daleko propracovanější.
I tak se tu děj odehrával z pohledu více osob. Což mi tolik nevadilo, protože člověk aspoň mohl sledovat jak se se situací vyrovnávají různí lidé. Ale tu hlavní dějovou linii držela pořád Alyssa její mladší bratr a soused Kelton.
Kelton je z rodiny, která se na Bezvodí velice dobře připravila. Takže je jejich dům následně okupován několika desítkami sousedů, pro pár lahví vody. To se zvrtne ke střelbě a tak Kelton odchází z domu a společně s Alyssou a Gerettem se vydávají na cestu do jejich bunkru v horách.
Myslela jsem, že až najdou bunkr, děj skončí a s nimi to dopadne dobře.. no, ale to jsem se spletla. Protože se cestou musejí vypořádat se spoustou překážek. Zlí muži, dehydratace a nakonec spousta požárů, co kvůli Bezvodí vznikla. A dokonce jeden z požárů málem ukončil jejich životy..
