this my fault going into the book blind. I love Ana’s writing so it’s hard not still semi enjoy the book even thought I hated how it ended?? BUT I will be going on to book 2 because I think I know what actually happens and I need to know if i’m right.

I like the setting of the book and I absolutely love it was a study abroad book. I like that students travel to other countries and explore what Shanghai has to offer. I really enjoy that Ana Huang captured the whole study abroad atmosphere rather than focusing on the love story itself. The friend group was also great and I can’t wait to read about them in the future books. The love story itself was also good and cheesy. What I didn’t like is the ending which I predicted but I still did not like the way it was executed.

I'm rating this book 3.5 ⭐️ and 1🌶️. Well, this book is not what I expected it to be and definitely threw me for a loop and I was shocked that there wasn't a happy ending but overall, I thought the story was a bit meh and was pretty shocked. I felt that way as I love this author, hoping the second book will be a lot better maybe just not my cup of tea this series we'll see.🫶

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I thought the main relationship was cute in that first love kind of way. The moments between the FMC and MMC were super adorable and bantery. However, I had to spoil myself on the outcome of what the plotline of the second half of the book was about, which isn’t resolved until book two, I’m supposing. I’ll read book two, since I do want to do that, but I wasn’t a fan of that plotline so this was a low four star for me.

Uhm. It was alright. Kinda cringy. Maybe I just don’t like romance books. I’ll probably read the next book in the series but only because I have to finish it since I started it.
