I really enjoyed this story of the strength of women in wartime. I knew that there were female spies in World War Two, but I didn’t realize there was also a network of female spies in World War One.

As always, the way women were treated is infuriating, though that was a main reason female spies were so successful. Everyone underestimated women, and they used that to their advantage.

I loved Charlie’s character development. She started out so unsure and indecisive and grew into herself in wonderful ways. Eve was also a fascinating character, though she was far less lovable.

One warning: there is some language. It’s not constant, but there were a surprising number of c-words. They were mostly said by a despicable human being, so they felt appropriate, but just a heads-up.

Wow! This book blew me away. I'm a sucker for historical fiction, but this book really took it to the next level. Female spies, unlikely friendships, romance, the search for lost loved ones after a world war...this book just did it for me! And the characters - just WOW, I love them. Or love to hate them, depending. Damn, Kate Quinn sure can write! Eve, Charlie, Finn, Lili, Violette, Cameron, Rose, even Rene - they were all so vivid and real to me. I feel like I know them. This book was truly perfect in my opinion. Now I am just gushing, but I don't know what to do with myself now. What if the next book I read is not this good?!
