Only Hutchinson can pull off low-key infusing Sci-Fi in an otherwise a contemporary fiction. I'll have to read this book again.

I received access to an arc of this book through the Jellybooks reading program. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book as I have never read anything by Shaun David Hutchinson before. I will definitely be picking up his other books. I really liked how diverse all of the characters were, although I did have to ask my daughter what applied to Lua. I'd heard of gender fluid but this was my first real exposure to it.

It started slowly and I kept waiting for something big to happen. The time between the episodes of the universe shrinking was fairly long and I kept waiting for more to happen with that. Towards the end of the book when the universe was shrinking rapidly I realized that I had become so invested in the characters and what they were going through that I had almost forgotten that part of the storyline. The ending wasn't very subtle but that was OK. The resolution for the characters was very satisfactory.

“The other was a regular who usually loitered in the graphic novel aisle but never bought anything, who wanted to know if we had some YA book about ants and aliens I’d never heard of”
Can I just say that I loved this Easter egg :D

I read this book because my friend read it and it's now one of her favorite book ever. So I knew when I started it that the end was unexpected (as least, she didn't expected it). I'm usually the one who guess the end of the book before the last pages, but for this one, I was surprised because, like my friend, I did not expect this ending. Shaun David Hutchinson is really a genius, and his writing is incredible.

“Life's truest horror is a door that slams shut that can never be opened again”

I really liked the characters and their own personality, but I don't know why I didn't like Tommy. The first chapters with him were really cute and all that kind of stuff, but then, I was like “No Ozzie, you have to go with Calvin pleaaaaaase” ahaha

The whole thing with the universe was really really interesting, but at the beginning I was like “waaaaaaaaaaat” aha. I really liked this kind of metaphor with the stars and the universe!

“You can choose to be happy with what life gives you, or spend your life miserable. I choose happiness. It's really that simple”

I didn't understood well the ending at first, then I read the author's note and I understood that it was about depression and that Ozzie was depressed, so that was why the universe was falling apart. His universe was falling apart. And then when he finally accepts this fact, and when he is ready to move on, the universe stop striking and he is back to his “normal” life.
This was unexpected as I said before, and a really good way to picture depression.

This book was really mind blowing. And this is all I can do for a review because you have to read it to understand the feelings about it.

"The world's going to offer you an endless array of what-ifs over the course of your life, and the only choices that matter are the ones you make."

Another wonderful story by [a:Shaun David Hutchinson|3130410|Shaun David Hutchinson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1387295428p2/3130410.jpg]. This is a story with a lot of different pieces. There is Ozzie - who lost Tommy. He disappeared one day and no one else remembers him (not even his own mom). But as Ozzie continues with his life, trying to live it with this gaping hole where Tommy used to be, he also notices the stars are missing. And so is the moon - the universe is actually shrinking - and he's not sure what to do about it.

But there is more going on here. Lua, best friend and great band mate, has their own struggles. Calvin is new on the scene and brings his own brand of interesting storyline as well. Add Dustin, Jamie and a few others and it mixes the whole pot with a hodgepodge of real life stories. And so many pieces are handled so wonderfully. I wish I could hand this book out to everyone and make them read it.

The wonderful part about this story is the not knowing - it's the flowing discovery of Ozzie's world and what's going on. Just take each page, each chapter at a time - it's definitely worth it.
