Way too many old-people-dying-motifs for me. I loved the overall plot, but couldn’t find myself rooting for or generally caring about the main characters (except said old people).

Best book I've read in a while! The first 50 pages felt a little 'light' in depth: Cassie, the main character, seems too naive to be believable. Then, she is gifted the Book of Doors and the reader meets a spectacular villain, The Woman,- so bad and evil, a great contrast to the innocent protagonist. Along the way, Cassie meets and joins other Bookhunters, seeking to keep the Book of Doors, and other magical books, out of The Woman's hands. As The Woman's desire to own all magical books intensifies, Cassie grows and becomes a strong young woman who must let go of her grief and fight to help her new friends. Excellent! Brown does an excellent job of making the ability to move through doors to other places and times seem very believable.

This book was so good I literally need to buy it immediately. It gets somewhat critical reviews, but tbh I loveddddd it and have already recommended it to some of my friends. It’s so so so so good and the magic system is so sickeningly cool. It had enough danger to be interesting, enough compassion between characters to be compelling, and enough flaws to make it feel human and set in a real world in spite of the magic. The time element was so interesting to me and was overall just such a good read

I was a skeptic about loving this as much as The Midnight Library, but it far surpassed expectations. Finishing the book gave the same rush as finishing a good movie at the theater: that rush of endorphins or whatever other feel good brain chemicals.
