I started reading a review of this over at Smart Bitches, Trashy Books when the reviewer advised against reading any reviews, including hers, because it would spoil the book.  So I stopped reading the review and went to read the book.  I didn't even peek at the ending even when I was tempted to know what would happen.  I'm glad I didn't, because I would've missed out on enjoying how this unique story unfolds.  The best book I've read so far this year.

This book was not at all what I was expecting in the best way.  It was funny, it was sad, it was twisty-turny.  I'd classify it as a "fast read", but I don't know if it was because the story moved quickly, or I simply couldn't put it down.  I wish my office had people as entertaining as Dolores & Jake, and perhaps an overabundance of paper airplanes...

HATED THIS BOOK

Surprised, but in a good way.

Loved the humour, the serial killer vibes and discussions, the two social weirdos finding each other, the secondary characters were fleshed out, and there were a couple of twists I actually did not see coming.

This is one of the weirdest books I’ve ever read it’s like fan service but the author is the only fan

I was expecting a dark romance, filled to the brim with murder and blood, and spice. Instead, I found a heartwarming, sweet and darkly funny story of two people who are used to living on the edge of society. I loved watching Jake and Dodi fall in love. This had so many moments of chuckles and so many moments of tears. I loved all the side characters and how deeply they were fleshed out. I loved the murder podcast that was weaved through out. I am glad the author cleared up early the actual serial killer status of the main characters, though.

Morbidly funny, wildly original, and oddly romantic, this novel is the perfect blend of true-crime obsession and dark romantic comedy. Think Wednesday Addams meets Dexter in an office romcom—and yes, it’s as unhinged as it sounds. Dolores de la Cruz, a Filipina true-crime fanatic, is convinced the mysterious new office temp, Jake Ripper (actual name!), is a serial killer. He’s charming, cryptic, and fits every profile she’s studied. But when she asks him for help disposing of a body? Game on. I couldn’t put this down. Dolores and Jake’s morbid flirtation, dark humor, and sizzling chemistry were perfectly matched, making this one of the most original romance reads I’ve picked up in a long time.
