Never read a series of books where NONE of the characters appear to have any redeeming characteristics lol

I didn't think I'd like how many parts and narrators this book is divided in but I actually ended up liking being able to see how other perspectives add to the story. I liked how this series ended but it did leave me wishing for a bit more to see what happens after the end of the book. I think out of the 3 books in the series I enjoyed this one most.

A quote in this book stuck with me “I wish we lived in a world where actions were measured by our intentions behind them. But the truth is, they’re measured by the consequences.”

I think that quote sums the finale of Wayward Pines up perfectly. Not only does this book show you the intentions vs consequences of Burke, Pilcher and Hassler but gives you the opportunity to really choose which side you should measure.

The finale of the trilogy holds up well. It’s fast paced, wraps up loose ends and does relatively well of not being pure action packed.

As I’m avoiding spoilers I won’t say too much more. The only things keeping this from a 5/5 is there are moments where Ethan has MC Syndrome/ Plot Armour that took me out of the story for a page or so and the divisive ending…

Either way I’m glad I read this trilogy. Strong recommend.

I could have done without the romantic triangle sub-plot woven through the last two books. Unusual for Crouch and unnecessary to the main plot thread.
I did love the solution the town came up with in the end - unexpected and interested.

I’m so glad this series wasn’t the first thing I read of Blake Crouch’s writing because while I loved his other works that I’ve read this series was not it and got worse and worse as it went on. The first two thirds of the first book had real potential but it sure never went anywhere. The characters lacked any depth and were inconsistently and poorly written and just flat out annoying. The way the female characters were written in particular was horrifying and to call them characters and not just objects to bicker over is an exaggeration. Plus we’re pretending what was happening to them wasn’t a literal horror plot just so we could go on and on about petty romance love triangle things while people were literally dying. There were plot holes and inconsistencies all over the place. There were all these interesting little nuggets that were completely ignored and never built on so that we could whine over and over and over about the love triangle while also shoving down the reader’s throats what a good husband Ethan was and what a loving relationship he and Theresa had as if we weren’t reading with our own eyes that that was clearly not the case also in the same POVs. The pacing was all over the place. I was actively rooting against the characters. The ending made characters be super ooc for what little character they had just to tie things up with a bow in a way that had me debating quitting reading 90% of the way through the last book. Did I have fun reading this book? Kind of but only because I was having fun messaging Iris about how ridiculous the whole thing was and not because I saw any kind of redeeming qualities in it
