Letters at Christmas was not quite what I expected. I love old timey books as nothing really happens between the main characters until the end. Well, this is a more modern old timey story I suppose. There is lots of sexy time in this book! Much more than I expected for the time period it is set in. I did enjoy the story a lot.

Hale left Sidony three years ago to go make his fortune so he will be able to marry her. He promises to write every day, but she never hears from him once in all that time. When he finally comes back, Sidony is angry and doesn't want to let him back into her heart, even though she wants to at the same time. She doesn't want to be hurt again.

This is the story of Hale winning Sidony back over. It is a short, quick read and kind of fun. I enjoyed the characters and the story was just fun. Sidony and Hale are great together and everything works out in the end, just in time for Christmas! I love the last little bits of holiday magic for the season.

I originally read this story as part of A Very Scandalous Holiday Anthology (which I gave a rating of 4) and when it showed up as an Amazon freebie over the summer, I figured I would pick it up to read again near the holidays. It is a cute story of two childhood friends that fall in love. But one has no fortune and needs to validate his ability to take care of her. So off he goes - but things don't happen the way he planned. Now that he's returned she's a bit peeved at him and he needs to win her back before Christmas.

As I said, it was a fun read, but it didn't really stand out to me. At about 64 pages it is a good one to read all at once and the story does keep moving at a nice place. It was just a tad too cliche for me to rate it much higher.

Lost lovers reunited typically appeal to me as a trope. While the story was likable, the heroine didn't really make me crazy in a good way. I'm sure it was annoyance over her shenanigans with the hero. I grew quickly weary of "I love you. No, I'll never forgive you. Oh, but I'll have sex with you anyway." Still, it was a nice little read.

This was a very sweet short romance. Sidony Harbeck had been in love with her brothers best friend for years. When Hale left to find his fortune at sea, he promised to come back for her in a year, and to write to her as often as he could. Three years later, Sidony had not received even one letter, but she had grown up quite a bit. Determined to show Hale that she did not spend the last three years pining for him, she decides to pretend that what they had before had not been real love. Hale knows that he was wrong for never sending Sidony letters while he was at sea, but he had his reasons. Now he needs to break through her barriers to convince her that their feelings haven't changed, only grown stronger. Knowing Sidony could never back down from a challenge, he wagers that he can convince her to marry him by Christmas, in just three short days.
This is a short novella, but it is packed with emotion and romance. We see both Sidony and Hale grow into different, more mature and open people. I love that is was not simply an easy reunion, and both characters realized that even though the years apart were painful they both needed them, not only for themselves, but for each other. My absolute favorite part is when
Sidony learns that Hale had been writing all along but couldn't or wouldn't send her the letters to protect both of them
. Overall it was very touching, had a very heartwarming HEA, but also had some very steamy love scenes so it was a winner all around.
