Thoughts on vol 3 and the series overall : I genuinely had good hopes after volume 1, especially after learning who the ML was, but sadly the story didn't deliver (in my opinion obviously).

I'll share a few reasons why under spoiler tags (no big spoilers, more general thoughts, but don't look if you want to go into the story without any expectations!)

Spoiler- the (strong) infodumping anytime there's a big reveal, usually through long-ass conversations : THANKS I HATE IT!!!
- still very much enjoyed the world-building and everything that concerned the netherworld (but only up to a certain point: when I reached the ending I was so fed up that even that part got boring sadly)
- I don't really like the mc and 3 books later I feel like i still don't KNOW HIM, which is a problem because then I don't understand why he does most things AND even more annoyingly I (almost) never understand why he comes to a particular conclusion??? Dude is gonna reveal that he realized something and I'll be like??????? help a girl out there???? explain????
- I didn't feel anything for the romance even though I should have (forbidden romance!!!!)—I think the culprit is the way Priest writes, I just felt detached and couldn't feel (also their dynamics were weird to me idk idk) (the fact that I didn't like the mc didn't help either

“I hold all the world’s famous mountains and rivers in my hand, but what of it? They’re nothing but a bunch of rocks and wild waters. Of all that I am, the only part worth anything may be my heart. If you want it, it’s yours.”

A good conclusion to a series I loved reading! Not perfect, and it definitely has its issues, but still a good time regardless.

The pacing felt off here—more than in the previous two volumes. It seemed like all of a sudden everything was being revealed, all in quick succession. Some of the reveals felt a bit…strange, too.

Looking back, I wish we’d gotten more information on what exactly a Guardian is. There was more of a focus on it in volume 1, but it slowly fell to the wayside in favor of the greater plot.

I love Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan. I miss them already. That ending almost had me, seriously.
Shen Wei….you deserved how Zhao Yunlan treated you in the epilogue.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with Guardian volume 3, and with the series overall. Would recommend!

“My heart was swept away the first time I laid eyes on you. I’ve never forgotten it for a single moment.”
