I really enjoyed this! It did take a while for me to get into the characters, but I was hooked on the plot from the beginning. Multiple times I considered dnf'ing, but I'd be reeled back in by my desire to get answers to all my questions: Who really is Shen Wei? What is his connection to Yunlan? What led them to each other? A very satisfying ending in my opinion.

I really liked the whole thing. Unfortunatelyhis book was dragging it a bit too much for me at times. So at some point, it felt a bit like a chore but overall I really liked the universe.
Maybe I would have preferred if we had a tragic ending, just because of how it was framed in the end or maybe not tragic but like the reunion should have been more heartwarming maybe.
In any case, I will definitely read more if Priest's writings!

With this volume I pretty much had the same issues as with the last volume of this series, which is that I had a very hard time following and understanding the lore and plot. The "fake-memories" also didn't really make it easier to discern what actually happened in the past.
Still, overall I enjoyed this series very much and I absolutely adored Zhao Yulans and Shen Wei's relationship.
