This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. We left book 1 with a ritual going wrong but that didn't fail completely. Now she's more linked to the guys than ever, and that's good. But her HEA is still quite far. She can't catch a break and just enjoy spend the time with guys when someone continues to wreak havoc and blame it on Deva. I wonder what will happen next.

Book two of this series turns up the heat and sees Deva getting more comfortable with herself and her men. They begin to really develop their dynamic together, amid the outside sources that would pull them apart.I love the crossovers with characters from other M. Sinclair books, and hope to see more of that throughout the series. A great read and just a great series!

I have to admit that it always takes a little while before I get back into a book in this series, part of a multiseries verse by two amazing authors. I have to remember which girl we're following again and who her guys were. I think these books would benefit from a short summary at the beginning, so it doesn't take me one third of the book before I can lean back and enjoy again. However, I love each and every series in this verse, so I'm glad I once more got an arc!

The best part about this book is clearly the harem. Those guys are quite clearly prepared to do whatever they have to do to protect and woe their girl. Over the years their morals have clearly suffered from the jobs they've done, but it's so entertaining to see them throwing around threats and everyone knowing that there is a very real chance that they will actually do what they threat to do. It's the perfect example of psychos with a soft heart for their girl.

I also love how slowly the danger is getting more and more prominent. Even though our heroine did some horrible things in het life, it's so easy to care about her and to root for her and to want her to be happy. But this book proves that our girl is far from safe. Not until she has taken care of the one person who really wants to get rid of her. And that one person is getting closer and closer to her, so it's a matter of time before the clash will happen.

However, I'm getting more and more curious to see a bit more of the lives the guys had/have when they're not with our girl. I mean, it's amazing to see how they're loving her, caring for her and protecting her, but I would love to see their true psycho side and to see what they're really capable of! Because right now it feels like their entire lives are about their girl and I like my love interests to be a little more than that. I do have high hopes though that I'll get to see more in the next book!

Deva is getting closer to unlocking all her powers and also much closer to her men! With each new magic she discovers and starts to understand, the danger from her past looms bigger at her. I really like Deva's bunch of psycho men, they are all so perfectly wonderful to read, from their sweetness with her to their utter bloodthirsty Nature's, when it comes to anyone else, together the 6 of them are a force to be in awe of.

A solid 2nd book in the series with a cliffhanger that leaves you ready for book 3!

Our FMC isn't quite as spunky as she is in book one but she definitely fall to annoying sniveling twit level so it's a tolerable shift.

The MMCs shift from horny possessive obsessive psychos to I want to protect and keep her safe energy a bit more than I would like. But again, it's not too much and they keep the spice going.

The plot obviously takes priority in book 2 which I can't complain too much about because it's definitely interesting. There are a few gaps, and I wonder why they even introduced the concept of familiars since there's not much done with them. But overall it's a good read and doesn't make you disappointed you kept going with the series.

Series review: I started this without realizing it isn't finished yet. Devastating! I stopped after book 2 when I realized, so review based on books 1 & 2. I loved this. Are there one thousand ex-assassin heroine books? Yes. Thief heroine? Yes. Magic academy? Yes. Insta-love? Also yes. There is nothing particularly new here, but if you're into heroines with tragic backstories and a bunch of dudes who will kill anyone who touches her, this is that and I think it's fairly well done. I hope I remember the details when book 4 comes out this fall.
