To clarify, this is a regency romance with paranormal elements and NOT a paranormal romance with regency elements. As with the regency romance genre, the vocabulary can be obscure (recommend reading digital so you can look up the words as needed) and it can take a whole paragraph to state something that could have been one sentence in modern language styles. I normally get into the groove of it as I go, but this one did feel a bit like walking through mud at times. I found the paranormal shifter aspects to be well woven into the story and felt quite natural. While I don't think I will continue on with the series, I would still recommend this to readers who enjoy both the regency and the paranormal romance genres.
Cute and funny! Not the most Serious Historical Romance, but more of a fun romp with some good paranormal world building mixed in. Felicity is probably a bit too modern in her sensibilities, but that balances out Alfred's old-fashionedness. Her best friend Jem, plus Mary, Mrs. Baird and O'Mara make up a great supporting cast and I was hoping for a secondary romance betweem Jem and Bayes, but maybe that's yet to come.
Super fun premise that matches 2 of my favorite romance subgenres. However, it just fell a little flat. The writing style was difficult to get into and felt overly descriptive.
But a super fun concept and I might read the next in the series.

Unfortunately I could not get into this paranormal historical romance. The Duke is intense in his pursuit of Felicity, his mate. He knownly ruins her reputation in order to convince her to marry him. She resist his pursuit but gives in eventually. Im not a fan of this type of romance. I much prefer for the heroine to be able to choose her own path.

Nice concept, but the execution leaves something to be desired. The main characters are a bit dim-witted, the plot is rather dull, and the steamy bits lack steam. As to the writing style? Though the splendiferousness of her prose is risible, I would fain purloin the penwoman’s ponderous thesaurus and jettison it to the azure depths where Leviathan skulks with gaping maw, proclaiming “Gramercy, That Chest is portentous!”
Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review, my thoughts are my own.
So this had everything I wanted at first glance, paranormal soulmate romance in a time period Victorian setting, YES PLEASE. Unfortunately it did not deliver with my most wanted guilty pleasure read.
This book left me disappointed, I had the urge to skim parts and felt highly uncomfortable with the setting the ML was making, I am all for a mate alpha possessive ML (when well done, not that is healthy in any way, but as a "would do anything to protect you' type of read when the mood strikes) in a guilty pleasure read, but this was just not it. HE RUINS HER REPUTATION, which if you know anything about that time period could be equivalent to social suicide since woman cannot own properties and rely on a man to survive, which a good match comes from the reputation you have, which is weirdly not an issue in this book since she can inherit her stuff at 25 ???? that baffled me...; TO MAKE HER FORCED TO BE WITH HIM. This is just no no no no NO, he basically closes all other doors, she is left with no free will.
I could not get behind a romance that completely ripped any choices our MC Felicity had, she wanted to not get married and inherit her dues, but he was like nope your my mate, here you are ruined now I am your only option. WHICH EUW.
I was also SOOOOO bored thought the read, thing were much longer than they needed to be and the writing style drawn out which made for a lot of instances where sentences could've been shorter.
ANYHOW disappointing read, a book really not for me.

This series was written just for meeeee I love historicals I love shapeshifters
While I loved the concept of the book, it felt lacking in a lot of ways – too drawn out on some things, and not enough detail on others. As other reviewers note, there is random capitalization that makes you question why it’s there.
I expected a higher level of spice as well, which is completely on me.
I was genuinely thrilled at the prospect of this book because I haven’t seen many regency-esque paranormal romance, and I was looking forward to the tie in if the two. The tie-in was done well, and the general storyline is pretty fresh considering the typical, seemingly recycled storylines of books set in the time.
