Only reason this isn't a 5: I loved how the story was concluding, but then the wrap-up was just too abrupt.
It makes the ties to the sequel series better, but still I think that song had a few notes left before that cutoff.

I tore through the pages and then wished I could set them all on fire out of anger

This is ridiculous.

I don’t know if it’s in part because I didn’t read the right ending, but nevertheless, I have no intention of continuing the series.

It was a mid ride and I’m happy to be over with it.

(Tho I would happily watch a new movie)

Alita gets everything thrown at her while finally reaching the place she’s been wanting to since the beginning: Zalem. Not a clean cut conclusion, but something that’s not ready to be finished. A (97%/Outstanding)

The ending of the epic journey of Alita, from scrap-heap refuse to avenging angel. The (canonical) ending was unexpected, anti-climatic, but, upon reflection, elegantly poetic in its melancholy. The artwork throughout the series has been gorgeously detailed. The books themselves, with their well-balanced blend of philosophy, action, tender interactions, hyperviolent gore, humor, and science fiction have been among the best comics I've ever read; this volume is an excellent conclusion to all that.

Wow, wow, and just wow!

Admittedly it is hard to really dive into and express all I am thinking after completing this series of Battle Angel Alita. I laughed, I teared up a bit, and after reading this final installment have been left wanting more (and to go through those emotions again, and again)!

A series I would reread another time (just for the fun of it), I would recommend that anyone give it a shot, whether you are a fan of science fiction or not, black and white illustrations or not, whether you know your destiny for certain or not.

In short, give these nine books a try, and I promise you will enjoy it more than flan.

Ok, I just realized I didn't have this series in Goodreads. I think I read them somewhere around 2000 and I *believe* I borrowed them from someone? It's possible it was a pen pal of mine, but I'm really not sure. I AM pretty sure it was the earlier VIZ edition, that flipped the artwork. This series is a little gory for me at times, but I did like it well enough to finish, and when the movie came out a few years ago I was happy to watch that.

Can we just appreciate the fact that this is actually written in 1995, and its a sci-fi of the highest level even by today's standards, everything seems to be well structured and well drawn and well written.
Here comes this guy more than 25 years ago, he makes this story about a futuristic city, that is out of reach for the masses, that live on the actual earth, who btw are all working for that city, even though they can never reach it or be part of it.
The ending is a happy ending as alita is reborn back into figure's loving arms.
Nova becomes mad which makes it a happier ending lol.
The earth is moving on they made a connection between the scrap yard and the sky city of tiphares.
what can i say i just loved it all..

Finito.
