I was yelling at the characters at the end about:
How dense are the elves to have never put it together that the new Crescent army battle magic was the Fae, and that they obviously were involved in the war aboveground? And how did they not know Komi was the Two Bladed Tyrant!
There wasn't too many surprises in the book , but I appreciated that it wasn't complex which made it easy to keep up with and fun to make predictions. And then satisfying when those predictions came true.

A little too much warmongering in the book for my taste though, Yeeran drives me nuts with this.
Also enemy to lover storylines just don't cut it for me.

Also just give me a story about Golan, I could stop here with everyone else's story lol.
Actually, I still want to know why Pila wants to return to the "Elven" lands with Yeeran. Who is this obeah? And where is the last human? They got to be around still too.

I really loved The Ending Fire trilogy by the same author, but was disappointed by Faebound. The writing was clunky and even a little cringey at times.  I felt like this story had "good bones" but missed the mark in terms of character development. I'll read the second, upcoming installment because I am familiar with the author, not because I liked this book.

I good read but it felt very predictable. Some of the early themes
of hunting the obdeah in detail
made me quite uncomfortable and I think the pacing was a bit off, alot of it moved slowly and then suddenly all at once

DID NOT FINISH: 61%

i feel conflicted bc the book was easy and rather fast to read and the world building was quite interesting and i really liked the queer and disability rep, but I just couldn't get into it fully and wasn't looking forward to continuing, i didn't really like the different dynamics between love interests either and some interactions just felt off, i do think i might have dnfed too early bc i guess twists and revelations would have happened soon but unfortunately i don't care for that too much, it's a shame but I'm excited to continue reading the final strife series soon

Elves versus Fae ... Elf soldiers inadvertently kill a Fae and are taken prisoner only to find themselves tangled in Fae prophesies and politics.

The bad bits... Leans heavily on some overused tropes and especially feels like ACOTAR in its imprisonment-actually-means-living-in-luxury. Enemies to lovers too - all the sexual tension. (Romantasy readers, if you know what's going to happen, how is that exciting?). Pinches ideas from Northern Lights about animal companions as part of your soul.

Good bits... This book has all the diversity - it is queer poly pan disability-representative and uses African hair and clothing styles. The story is interesting, the world building is added in smoothly, and things move quickly. There's two points of view, although they are sort of different angles in the same thing, rather than from different locations, so the scope of the story is not big. But I think the set up for book 2 means things will develop.

Overall pleasantly surprised (given recent romantasy DNFs I had low expectations). Will read the next one.

There’s like 8 main characters and they all fall in love and the ones who don’t are obviously the secret bad guys and there’s a bunch of magic lore that’s only kind of important. Enough twists you can guess and even some you don’t see coming (I might not have been paying 100% attention). Sufficient amount of smooshing, even if it happened a bit late.
