I was well immersed in the story of this book and can't wait to see where the sequel takes the world.
Commendations:
I later criticize the characters but I have to say that they were very enjoyable to follow through the story even if they could be improved. I found myself laughing at their joys and scowling at their frustrations along the way.
I loved seeing the story unfold through the last third of the book. It was fun to predict exactly what was going to happen right before flipping the page and finding out that I was right. The plot points weren't predictable enough to be easily deducible too early in the story, but they were set up in a way that didn't feel cheap when revealed.
I love the magical world that was crafted. The concept seemed like a unique take of folklore and fantasy and I enjoyed unraveling the lore of the world along with the characters.
Critiques:
The pace of the story could have been improved immensely. While the general pace of the story is fine, the individual moments are rushed at times. This makes it so that I have to add extra words, pauses, or sentences in my mind to get the desired emotional oomph rather than reading them on the page.
There are certain plot holes and ill explained elements in the world. I discovered these more from other reviews than from my own reading because I like to ignore these and enjoy the book instead. I wish there was more depth in the Forever War. It feels like such a shallow war that's gone on for far too long for no particular reason. The fight is over the Fraedia crystals under the land but as I saw in another review it doesn't make sense why the elves need these in the first place. Nowhere in the book does it say that the elven lands are arid or cold. I also thought this battle was being fought between all elven tribes but the only two that are repeatedly mentioned are Waning and Crescent.
The characters felt somewhat shallow at times. I hope that the future books in the series allow for more development. {{SPOILERS}} Rayan is just extremely flat (I do like him don't get me wrong).

Spoiler
I liked that even after all she'd been through, Yeeran chose to return to the elven lands. I think this is a very good point of tension between the sisters and it allows for more development in the future books. I felt as if Furi's change from hating Yeeran to loving her was very sudden. I know that it took place over a few months but that doesn't translate into the writing.Felt a little too immature for me, in terms of writing, plot, and because I listened as an audiobook the narration added to my choice to DNF. I think I would've made the same choice if I read it as a physical or e-book too.

I literally could not get into this book at first! I reached almost 40% before I got into it. The writing at the beginning wasn’t great for me but it got better the more I read. I did not like how quickly Lettle’s love story was and I wish that Yeeran’s was slower as well. There were some good twists. All in all, after the first 40% I enjoyed reading it and can’t wait for the next in the series.

Wow. I absolutely loved this. There were parts where I gasped out loud. Don’t you love when a book does that to you? This gave me Avatar-esque vibes. Highly recommend.
