Not a bad book by any means but didn’t really draw me in. I felt a lot of the worldbuilding was either understated (needed more detail) or really heavy-handed that it didn’t seem natural. I thought the romance moved too quickly, especially for Furi and Yeeran. I thought Yeeran should have done much more to signify her actually being over Salawa, otherwise it seemed a little out of character for her to move on. It was also very predictable, none of the plot twists felt shocking to me even though they were clearly shocking to the characters, I think the foreshadowing was a bit heavy-handed. It wasn’t a bad book and some of the magic stuff was interesting (although very His Dark Materials with the Obeah lol) but it just wasn’t my thing.

This book is so close to being so good, but it just falls a bit short. I like the sister relationship this book revolves around, and the world building and magic system are interesting. The other relationships though, especially the romantic ones, feel rushed and forced to me.

I enjoyed the story but did find some aspects quite predictable. Will be interesting to see where it goes in the next book.
