Sometimes I worry that the older fantasy romances won't stand the test of time, but this was did.  It was also entertaining to read the setting pre-cell phones and in the early days of internet.  I had fun and it kept me reading.  Which is saying something since I haven't felt like reading a single thing lately...  Will absolutely continue on, but think I will switch over to the graphic audio versions to listen to while knitting.

A Very 2000's Mystery, but I liked it.

For Me it's an "Ok" story, with great world building and a solid plot. Outside of some questionable romantic dynamics, I had a fun time.

Would recommend for it's Mysterious Plot, Urban Fantasy Setting and likable Main Character. If you're looking for some light reading or a new series to dig into, or maybe a new audio book to listen to then I'd give this a try.

I've been trying to scratch my urban fantasy itch while waiting for the next Dresden Files installment. This was about what I expected. I really enjoyed the first third of the book. I think the characters and world building is set up VERY WELL. Things dragged a bit for me in the middle when all of Mercy's past and current relationships were introduced one after another. I kind of wish we could've been introduced to some of these character gradually over the span of a few books. One conflict a side character has in particular I thought could've been a nice continuing subplot, but it was pretty much resolved right away. There's also a cringy love triangle being introduced that might scare me off, but I've heard this is only a thing early on in the series. The last third of the book had me engaged and invested once again. Just when I thought I had a grasp on the mystery, things got a bit convoluted for me, but this is a minor quibble. Overall, this was such a solid setup to a long series, I'm optimistic it'll only get better from here.

This book was on my tbr list for a while and when I saw a friend of mine had read the books, I was so excited to start this series. I liked the first book a lot and I love Mercy. She is an interesting character and I’m excited to know more about her.
This is actually more than a 3 stars review, like a 3.5 or 3,75. Very close to 4.
