Final Reaction: An urban fantasy about a Strong Female Character who has a complicated relationship with the werewolves in her life. I thought this book was fine. I generally liked Mercy and the other characters. But the story was a little convoluted. If I’d picked it up 20 years ago when I was in a big urban fantasy phase, I probably would have devoured the whole series. As it is, I’ve moved on and won’t be continuing with these books. It’s always fun to read something set in Washington though!
I picked this up because it had good reviews, but it was just okay for me. I was disappointed and won't continue with this series. It was a quick and average read, but nothing made me want to pick up the next book.

I picked this book up only b/c the main character is female and has a lot of tattoos, b/c I don't see that often in popular fiction. I was startled at how many progressive attitudes this book included, as well. Mercy Thompson is a person of color, being half Native American, which I don't encounter often. There is also a homosexual werewolf, enabling the author to discuss homophobia in contemporary society. She also discusses gender inequality. I will definitely continue with this series.

I don’t love the religious undertones, the built in sexism (though it’s a fairly accurate reflection of reality), but the story itself and characters were interesting. I’ll probably try one more book.
Moderate: Sexism, Kidnapping
There is a point where a minor didn’t seemed to have been raped, but was taken to another room to use the bathroom (she had been kidnapped) and the captor at least watched her.
This was...not good. I don't know why I bothered finishing it other than that I waited for it to come in for a couple months. I won't be continuing this series and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.
I would rate it a 3.5 I enjoyed the plot but the internalized misogyny was a bit rough at times.
