A wonderful supernatural urban fantasy like Dresden files with a bit of twilight. I look forward to reading more.

Meh. This dramatized version was actually great. I thought the sound effects and editing were great and enjoyed the full cast. But that wasn’t enough to save the story or make me care more. Mercy was kind of random and needs way more fleshing out. And the I just didn’t care that much about the story itself. There was no tension or build up. Things just sort of happened.
Idk. Probably won’t continue the series.

I decided to go back to a loved but unfinished series that I read over a decade ago and it did not disappoint.
Mercy is a walker, part Native American woman who can shift into a coyote, but was raised by werewolves as she has never met another of her kind. In this world, the fae have started to come out by only bringing their more harmless people out into the public eye. There are werewolves, vampires, and witches as well, but they are all still in hiding from the general population.
Mercy has spent her adult life pretending to be human mechanic and keeping the peace with the werewolf pack next door. That is until a new werewolf teen comes into her shop in obvious distress and she decides to help out. This turns out to be a much bigger conspiracy and danger than she though and she ends up in the middle of werewolf politics where her past comes back to haunt her.
I really liked this series the first time around, and like it similarly now even though I am noticing some more issues. I like how Mercy pretends to be submissive, for her survival because of werewolf dominance games, but is very clearly not.

A great start to what looks like a promising series.
I enjoyed this book far more than I expected. I was admittedly hesitant after being burned a few times reading what looked like urban fantasy books featuring strong female protagonists but turned out to be badly disguised romance/erotica with hints of fantasy/paranormal elements.
This was refreshingly devoid of that. Yes, there are hints of romance, but they remain hints throughout the book, and I hope through most of the series. The story is focused on Mercy's attempts to uncover a conspiracy involving the werewolf clans.
The world described in this book is fascinating and sometimes depressingly realistic.

I love this series. I didn’t intend to start a reread but I couldn’t resist throwing on the audiobook to get other tasks completed.
