This one started off slow and I wasn’t sure whether I was liking it, but by the end Eli and Sage and their beautiful love story had truly captured my heart.

Sage was such a relatable character. She was so strong and held everyone in her life above water, even when she was the one drowning. She just wanted the best for everyone in her life and didn’t know what that looked like for her. Eli was able to show her this, but she also came to realise her worth as a person on her own. Her story and her ability to just keep going was really admirable. I loved her and how much she loved everyone else around her and really admired her strength as a character. She had so much growth in this book to become the person she always wanted to be. As well as a great amount of depth that we truly got to know who she was and what she wanted. She also added humour to the book, as this was an automatic reflex for her to diffuse difficult situations. Anyway, it was just really lovely to see a character like her in a book. She was flawed and a bit of a mess, but aren’t we all?

Eli was such a contrast to Sage. She is such an open book, whereas he was so closed off. He kept everything inside and didn’t understand his worth as a person either. He let the past define his future, and it wasn’t until he met Sage that he even saw a proper future. He was struggling for so long and thinking that he didn’t deserve good things in his life, like Sage. It wasn’t until he met her that he realised he did deserve these things. There was just so much heart and growth in both their stories and it wasn’t beautiful to see them help each other in their journeys as people. Eli was so full of depth and had so much substance to his character that I just really enjoyed him finding his happily ever after. Even though in some aspects they were polar opposites, they truly complimented each other so nicely.

I definitely saw a slight improvement in the writing from Collide and was happy to see the author’s voice shine through a bit more. It was simple, but had so much depth and vulnerability, as well as perfectly timed tension, to hook the reader in. The slow burn was so worth it as you got to see Sage and Eli connect deeply and without the sexual aspect which made their love seem more genuine and authentic. But when they did give in, it was so great and I cannot fault Bal’s smut scenes at all. I loved that there wasn’t necessarily a huge third act break up, it was more so them realising their feelings for each other and taking the time to be authentic and realistic.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more about these characters + many more in the next book!
