The main character is impossibly bland and frustrating. She is put through countless toxic or downright abusive situations. Both potential love interests are toxic and abusive. Her family is neglectful and abusive. This classifies, at best, as a dark romance. If you are already unimpressed by the offerings of that genre you will not have a good time reading this. The first sixty percent of the book is boring and toxic. After that it is no longer as boring but triple toxic.
The audiobook narrator does good with the material she is given but this is definitely not a tale for me. People say the next book is better and this is the worst book in the series but I am not giving this author a second chance.

This book is greatly written! There’s plenty of moments where there’s a plot twist, or you know that something will happen but what does happen surprises you. There’s also a few emotional moments so you might want to bring the tissues.
You may have also heard about this being a spicy book, and I’d rate it a 3/5 on the spiciness level, but I also don’t read too many spicy books

What an amazing read. I now understand why it is so popular and I am both sad and relieved to not have read it before. I am already dreading the last page if the series!

I wasn’t willing to give this book a chance for a long time. I don’t know how or if it prepared me for the devastation and love I would feel while reading this book. I felt captivated and enthralled at every single turn. I am usually one to have figured out the entire story pretty early on and I was surprised at the creativity and the strings that tied this story together. This made me fall back in love with fantasy.
