This was an amazing book! The world building and descriptions were amazingly written as I felt like I was IN this book, in this world. It has some very dark and graphic moments as a warning. I really enjoyed the cast of characters and the villain. The main character is interesting although sometimes I grew really frustrated with her, especially at the very end of the book. Other than that, I loved this book! I’m very very excited to read/listen to the second book. At the end of the first book they wrap a lot of the story, but there’s obviously so much more to come and be discovered.

I feel like this is one of the silliest books, if not the silliest book, I have ever finished, but I also couldn’t put it down? I definitely wouldn’t call it good, but it reads like something smutty off fanfiction dot net circa 2002, so it’s a certain kind of cozy (for something with a fair amount of gore in it). I’m about Maas’s age so it makes sense.

It’s a little noncon so if you’re sensitive to that maybe avoid it.

I finally got around to reading this book.  I liked it, but it didn't capture me like Rebecca Yarros's "Fourth Wing" (Empyrean series) did.

I can’t believe I’ve actually read this. Graphic audio is wonderful, there should be graphic audio for every book ever cuz that was wonderful (except for the moaning) some of it was really funny cuz I was listening to it at 1.5x speed (like a normal person) and listening to sped up moans, laughs and music was definitely a bonus.
I’m excited to see how she ends up with Rhys cuz like she seems happy but like I can already tell she’s better with Rhys LIKE COME ON
I do really like Lucien cuz he’s just a mean twink. If he ends up being not even a bit fruity I will be angry. (And I will be cuz this is SJM so I’m not expecting much)

*ETA After sitting with my thoughts and then eventually reading the first 3 books in the series, I have changed my rating from 4 stars to 3.

A wonderful book that got me out of a reading slump. You could easily see it’s influence from Beauty and the Beast, which made for an interesting slow-burn romance. I enjoyed the characters, and the storytelling was vivid, pulling you right into that world.
In saying that, this book does have its flaws including slow pacing, a few predictable plot points, and some cringy dialogue.
Overall, it was a compelling read that I couldn’t put down. I look forward to picking up the sequel.

This book is a conglomeration of existing stories, opening with a Hunger Games-esque plot that quickly transforms into a dark Beauty and the Beast dupe before contorting into a twisted plot reminiscent of any Greek Mythology tale filled with characters that could’ve been pulled directly from Lord of the Rings. The protagonist is a cliche “not like other girls” heroine who clumsily navigates a plot where everything coincidentally works out in her favor. For a book praised by so many, I was disappointed with the lack of originality and by the obvious plagiarism of other superior stories.
