My first fantasy romance. I enjoyed the ride, wholst reading and had fun with the world of scary fairies compared to mortals on the otherside if the wall. I enjoy the family and friendship dynamics amongst the characters. There were moments of tension, fun, bad/ stupid decisions, fighting for a better world. A couple of eye roll moments, but when I thought the story was slowing it changed. Three trials for our protagonist and a beauty and beast retelling, which if those are your buzz words you will probably have fun. As a mix of Fantasy Romance it was a bit of fun, but easily able to pull apart the romance and the fantasy world focusing on them individually. I prefer alot more communication in my romance and stronger world building in my fantasy.

This book surprised me so much! It pulled me from a years-long reading slump. This is such a unique story that I’ve never read before. The author has fresh ideas with twists and turns you’ll never see coming. I could barely put it down ! If you like fantasy, you need to read this book!

I have such mixed feelings. I absolutely loved some of this book, and HATED other parts. The main character, Feyre, bothered me so intensely; her actions and personality often don’t make sense for the strong, survival oriented independent hunter she’s supposed to be, and she’s frustratingly inconsistent. And I also didn’t love the male romantic lead; you can’t type a character as “the nice guy” and also “a bad boy”, pick one. He can only be one of those things. Because I didn’t like either of them, I struggled to root for their romance. Like I don’t think they make sense. However, I loved two of the supporting characters: Lucien and Rhysand. Not always likable, sometimes morally grey, but very interesting. I will probably read the next one, but I’m not in a rush to do so.
