Now for the English readers: I picked this up from a friend after she tried to persuade me for over a year to read it.
There were some things I didn't like very much,
e. G. That there was no atmosphere between Tamlin and Feyre and how whiny she was in the beginning even though she is supposed to be a huntress

But I liked Maas's writing style and after reading the second book I can confirm that this is mostly a really long introduction to the real series, but it's worth it.

I’ve read the series before and when a coworker told me about the Graphic Audio production I knew I had to check it out. The production was such a fun, interesting way to consume this story and I’m glad I was able to hear it for free on Hoopla. It’s very immersive and brought a whole new dimension to the story.

As for the content itself- it’s fine. I don’t think it’s worth the fanatical obsession some people have for it but it’s also not the worst thing I’ve ever read. Feyre waffles back and forth between being the empowered but burdened provider for her family and the damsel in distress isolated in a Fae world. I also have the hindsight of remembering plots for future books so I had an even stronger dislike of Tamlin this time. He gives off “selfish in bed” vibes and he does a terrible job explaining anything at all to Feyre about Prythian (even when you take into account the things he literally cannot tell her). He works hard to keep her isolated which he all but admits to when he tells her that he was only exposing her to the necessary people.

I will be continuing the Graphic Audio series and will definitely consider checking out other productions as well in the future.

It's a tale as old as time, it's Beauty and the Beast 🎵

Except Tamlin is a bit less remarkable than the Beast, haha. Not that the Beast was particularly exciting?

Okay, seriously, it's exactly the story just some things changed. She's a painter instead of a book lover for example.

I feel like I have a complicated love of this book. Like I do actually love this book but it's not without it's flaws.

Sure, it's not the most original storytelling since it's very much B&B but it has some unique takes and colorful imagery. The side characters I did more interesting than the protag. I love the unique courts and holidays. I am intrigued by the divide of faeries and humans.

And just to clarify, it's not just a B&B retelling, there is a point towards the last quarter or so of the book that moves on from the B&B story line and becomes it's own story and I really really loved that part.

All-in-all the world building and other characters are what really kept me hungry for more and I am looking forward to the next one.

Disliked most of the first part of the book and had to motivate myself to keep reading. It was boring, and she is really annoying at first.  Loved the back half of this book because something is wrong with me.
