I am both hot and funny, so I didn’t relate to the main character of this book.
This felt like a very one-dimensional expression of feminism to me. I think there is an interesting conversation to be had about how women so acutely feel the pressures of being deemed conventionally attractive whereas men can be valued for qualities other than just attractiveness. But I don’t think this book was super successful in critiquing that trend. Instead, Sally’s insecurities felt more frustrating than relatable and her penchant for self-sabotage was tiresome. Having said that, I thought a lot of the dialogue was very witty and I had a good time reading this book.

This was a fun read and I loved the different mediums the author used (including a whole section of the book that was e-mails back and forth) to keep the book moving. I also love SNL so feeling like I was getting a behind the scenes peek into what it’s like to be a part of that stratosphere was fun. I’m not quite sure if we’re far enough out from the pandemic to want to read Covid fiction, which is definitely a part (but not all) of the book, but I suppose it helped it feel relevant and realistic for today’s audience. I would highly recommend this book and thoroughly enjoyed it!
