This made me cry. Twice. One being the dedication 😭 I have been a long time follower of Poets Square and I loved reading about her feral colony and all the amazing work she does in regards to taking care of cats. I loved hearing about her background as well and tying things in to her real life. I wish nothing for the best for Courtney and her little friends at Poets Square. This book has been so inspiring.

Fell head over heels for this book. I always say that loving my cat has taught me more about love and patience, for others, him, myself, and the world around me, more than any other singular thing. This book really reflected that, how love and care for animals can translate into being a more present person in the world. These essays were so beautiful and this is absolutely a new favorite of mine. Also, days after finishing this, my girlfriend and I rescued a feral cat on their porch, very perfect timing. I love cats!

What I thought was going to be just a fun book about cats was actually one of the more complex books I’ve read this year. Courtney Gustafson starts talking about the 30 cats of Poets Square, and then beautifully ties in topics like homelessness, mental health, socioeconomic status, and sexism while sharing her story. She is vulnerable and raw. And it is beautiful. The only reason it’s not 5 stars for me is because this is not my typical read and it was one that I took quite a few breaks before coming back to.
