I did like that the characters had to use their smarts and logic rather than a whole lot of brute strength but I grew bored halfway in and confused at all of the different 'players'.

This was an okay book. I was getting really annoyed with the characters and the pacing was kind of annoying as well. Not bad but not great either.

“The worthy will rise into the stars . . .”

Having enjoyed Kaufman and Spooner writing partnership in the past with the Starboard trilogy, I was really looking forward to this Young Adult / Scifi tale.

Once more, the authors give us an engaging adventure featuring two teenagers at polar opposites of the social spectrum: Amelia, a white American girl scavenging to scrap enough money to buy her sister’s freedom, and Jules, a black English boy determined to validate his scientist dad and ‘save the world’. The narration, set once more in space or rather another planet, alternates between the two, giving us a taste of each protagonist’s voice and ‘character’, and features a very ‘tomb raider-y’ account. The interactions and banter between these two worked very well as did the mystery of the alien civilisation. As much as I enjoyed this book, I must admit it did feel a little ‘simpler’ than the authors’ previous trilogy but I’ll definitely be wanting to read the next instalment when it becomes available :O)

I received an advanced reading copy of this book.
Think Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft/Ripley and you will begin to love Unearthed before you have even begun!
This is a space adventure like no other. Mia is a Scavenger, searching other planets for tech that can get her money. Jules is a scholar who goes to Gaia in search of proof. What they both soon discover is that they need each other to save themselves and the everyone they love.
The Undying left a message - this is the location Mia targets. Encoded in that message was another message - this is the path that Jules follows and in doing so takes Mia along for the ride. These teenagers decode message after message, escaping all sorts of traps left in their paths. At the same time they are running from another group of smugglers, trying to stay ahead of that group and staying alive because they learn something that no-one else knows...
This is an excellent read for kids 12+ who love adventure stories, especially ones where death lurks around every corner! Unearthed is also great for fans of Science Fiction, but mostly for adventure. Mia and Jules will become heroes to our next generation.
Well done to Amie and Meagan who have spawned the next great series for our older kids and YA fans. I can see this one fast becoming a favourite of young and old alike. I am especially looking forward to listening to the kids asking 'When is book 2 coming?' because I guarantee that when you get to the end of Unearthed you will want more!

I wasn't expecting a lot from this book but I wanted something with adventure and difficult puzzles, this had some adventure though there were only a few puzzle solving moments. There was more teenage romance angst anything else, though I was expecting that. The plot was way predictable and more than once the thought of "this is why teenagers wouldn't be trusted to do these kinds of things" crossed my mind more than once. It was ok, but towards the end I found myself skimming more than I thought I would.

This is a fun young adult sci fi adventure.
I really liked the two narrators and the two differing viewpoints of the characters.
The story is a bit... simple, but that's comparing it to full Sci-Fi Epics, which: this is not trying to be. It's not trying to be Dune, it's trying to be a fun adventure. Which it is. It's really quick moving. The characters are interesting and smart.
I liked it enough that I'll probably be getting the second one very soon.

A mid-tier sci-fi adventure that has its moments of bliss, but has far too many moments of dread.
