Well that was a ride! This book being pushed as "Indiana Jones meet Tomb Raider in space" is completely accurate and just as fun as it sounds!
Alien planets, booby-trapped temples, a swoon-worthy romance and bad guys coming at you from all sides; what's not to love? I definitely recommend adding this book to your January 2019 TBR!

I didn't particularly like this, especially because of Jules' perspective and his incessant monologues. I could have definitely lived without the romantic aspect. The setting, Gaia, felt like a vaguely space-y Egypt and not a far away, formerly inhabited planet. I powered through a lot to get to the ending, and now I need to know what happens next! I will be ferociously stalking the release of the sequel.
UNEARTHED is the type of story that starts out carefully laying things together (the characters, the setting, the plot details), but builds up and crescendoes into something that has me realllly jonesing for the next part of the story. Even though it took me a while to warm up to the characters, I had fun reading it! It reads almost like a sci-fi film or game, and I’m curious to see how these authors work things out in the next one.

A few weeks ago, I decided that if I’m not enjoying a book, I will stop reading it, and Unearthed is the first victim. For the following reasons:
-Insta-love. They just met and they’re already trying to make each other smile?
-Amelia is annoying and too trusting, both her and Jules actually. You’d think in this world people would be hesitant to trust strangers. Just because someone saved you, doesn’t mean you should trust them.
-it’s just boring (or what I’ve read that is). The few encounters so far, and especially the setting, are simply bland, and I’m not expecting it to become more interesting anytime soon.
-it seems to be one of those books that spend a lot of time on a journey the characters take under difficult conditions to get somewhere. And I am tired of these stories.
Overall, I could tell this would’ve been a 2.5-star read, at the maximum.
Anyway, it sounded like a promising book, but it just wasn’t for me.

I really liked the adventure and alien aspect of this book I just wish that there was more of an emphasis on that stuff rather than the romance (which was really insta-lovey and annoying). Also the writing wasn't that great and it was hard to tell the difference between the two points of view. I still enjoyed the mystery of the story though
Mini review:
When I had first heard about this book I was pretty excited. I love treasure hunt stories and this one was in space! Unfortunately I didn’t like it.
The treasure hunt aspect was boring. I didn’t care for the plot or the supposed cure for humanity. I felt that we were given more questions than answers. I would’ve had some of the questions answered. Which really frustrated me. The insta-attraction between Mia and Jules was also annoying.
Mia and Jules were good characters. They made a decent team. Once all their secrets were out of course. I liked how the authors handled prejudice towards certain groups of people. The plot twist at the end while predictable was well done.
Overall this was very disappointing. I will not be continuing with this series. If you’re looking for a light adventure then this is for you.
