This is everything you come to expect from a Jill Shalvis summer book- beautiful beach setting, a lovely romance or two, predictable and entirely too coincidental, and full of charming and likable characters. It’s a book that has you smiling because it just makes you feel good! It’s happy and full of love. Sometimes you just need a happy book in a beach setting. This will make for perfect summer beach reading! My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

The Summer Deal review:

Kinsey and Brynn have been enemies since summer camp as kids. Eli is Kinsey’s best friend, and Brynn’s first kiss (at said summer camp) After a failed relationship, Brynn finds herself in the hospital with a panic attack and stumbles back into the lives of Kinsey and Eli. What happens next is a whirlwind of events to pick up the pieces of Brynn’s life and start anew.

I loved how the girls had their journal entries start each chapter. It really gave us depth on their enemy status, but also how their personality was shaping.

This isn’t just about two frenemies that are technically half sisters. This isn’t just about childhood camp crush hoping for that spark once reunited. This story goes deeper than that. It’s a story about hope, living life on limited time, a love story about loving yourself and the company you keep. (Faults and all). Brynn is trying to find her second chance at life with a new start. Kinsey is trying to find her second chance with a new kidney.

I kept getting the girls names confused, I won’t lie. I kept thinking Kinsey was Brynn, vise versa. With the diary entries, it almost read like a YA, but had romantic moments to even it out. This was my first Jill Shalvis, and I definitely plan on reading more.

The Summer Deal comes out 6.2.2020. Be on the lookout! Thank you NetGalley and William Morrow for the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for my opinion.

This is book #5 in the Wildstone series, but can definitely be read as a stand alone. It's about two half-sisters, Brynn and Kinsey, who have been frenemies since they were younger at camp who end up as roommates. Kinsey found out they were half sisters when she was a teenager, but Brynn still doesn't know. Coming home after a bad breakup, Brynn heads to her two moms house, but soon is suffocated by them. She happens upon Eli, who has a room to rent--a boy she kissed once as a teenager as part of a summer deal.
I loved the dynamics of all the roommates--Eli, Max, Kinsey and Brynn. Their banter was fun at snarky. There are two love relationships included--Kinsey and Deck and Eli and Brynn. Both were sweet, though I did feel like Eli and Brynn's was too fast to be believable as love. Whatever. I can get over that. It was a light romance with more issues thrown in about family and how we all can create are own family.
Kinsey has a major medical issue, but is afraid of letting anyone get too close to her as she has an expiration date. Brynn's messed up due to her ex-boyfriend destroying her self-esteem and confidence. It was great to see these two sisters come together in the end and everyone get their happy ending.

Thank you to William Morrow and Edelweiss for an advanced digital copy and to TastyBook PR for my physical copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a great road trip read. Engaging, but didn’t require a lot of thought.

Thanks to the publisher, via Netgalley, for an advance e-galley for honest review.

Sweet read about family both found and real, about friendship and connection. It's an easy, enjoyable read, and while the moments of heartbreak are predictable, the warm heart at the center make this a very pleasant read. It's definitely not required to have read the previous books in this series before reading this one.

I am glad I had the opportunity to read this latest offering from Shalvis. The Summer Deal, the fifth book in the Wildstone series, turned out to be both my favourite read of the series and 2020. Shalvis created an awesome and heart-warming story, which featured a cast of lovable but sometimes irritating characters. Collectively they had suffered pain, loss and heartbreak and my heart broke for them all. Throughout the story, I kept hoping they would get the happiness they deserved.

The author treated the reader to not one but two sweet and swoon worthy romances. The romance which existed between Deck and Kinsey and the one developing between Eli and Brynne.

I had a marvellous time watching how the relationships developed between the characters. My favourite of them all was the relationships which existed between Brynne and Kinsey and Deck and Kinsey. Brynne and Kinsey had a complicated relationship. Discovering that the person you grew up disliking and bullying at camp is your half-sister would have been quite a shocker. Her fear of revealing this knowledge to Brynne had the potential to destroy their budding friendship.

Deck and Kinsey loved each other, but her medical issues had her running scared, which led her to keep pushing him away. Deck’s patient and understanding nature would be the catalyst to save their relationship.
The Summer Deal is a story about love, family, friendships and building relationships. The issues raised although heavy were lightened by the humour Shalvis sprinkled throughout the story. This allowed for a few laugh out loud moments. I especially loved the scenes featuring the kindergarteners. Kids really do say the darndest things.

Conclusion/Recommendation
The Summer Deal was a fantastic read and one I would highly recommendThis review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
