The Summer Deal by Jill Shalvis

I couldn’t get past the 1st chapter. Just another story about an “almost 30” immature woman. I’ve had enough with this age group. My daughters are that age. I want to read more stories of grown up women who are 40 and up. I really wish more authors wrote in that age bracket

This is my first venture into this series, but it is a series where each book stands on its own with only the town binding each story to the other.  So feel free to read these books in any order.

This is told from two different POV - Brynn and Kinsey, frenemies that have more in common than they know.  They both have issues in their lives that seems to be exacerbated by events out of their control and by each other.  But despite it all, they manage to find common ground and perhaps they will be able to move forward in their lives.

This book brings in a lot of topics that are very relevant in today's world.  Brynn has two moms, she has anxiety, Kinsey has medical issues, bullying, organ transplant, and many more.  Each topic is woven into the story so that it flows seamlessly from one life to another.  There is romance and while I think the focus of this book was more Brynn than Kinsey, I would have liked to read more about Kinsey's relationship with Deck.  He's a single dad who has his act together and while he is willing to do anything for Kinsey, she pushes him away.  She has her reasons but opening herself to Deck could be life altering.

This book also focuses on truth and deception.  Secrets should not be kept and it can only cause more problems down the line if the truth is withheld.  I think Brynn and Kinsey learn this very well by the end of the book.

This is an enjoyable read and with a few heavier topics, but nothing that will bring down your mood while reading.  We give it 4 paws up.

Loved getting back to Wildstone. I loved the premise of this story and how it all played out. Towards the end I felt like things got a little repetitive with both sisters needing to let go of their issues....still, very enjoyable characters, story and ending.

(free review copy) Another satisfying story set in Wildstone, with very few connections to any of the other books in the "series". Shalvis manages to pull me in and make me care deeply about her characters pretty much no matter what, and this book was no exception!

I am a long time Shalvis fan and this book was another stunning winner for me. I loved all the characters and I really hope we will see more of them in a future book.

RATING: 4 STARS

Another great novel in the Wildstone series! Jill Shalvis has me hooked with this series, even though none of the novels are related. Other than them taking place in one small town, I don't see any characters making cameos in other books. This one is about Frenememies who are really half sisters (not a spoiler, I promise!). Along with romance, this series looks at friendships between women and family dramas.

*I received a free copy of The Summer Deal. This has in no way influenced my voluntary review which is honest and unbiased.*

Shalvis has managed to create a cast of characters that felt so real to me! Sometimes, I wanted to slap them, and other times, I just wanted to hug them and tell them that everything would somehow be OK.
The intricate relationships, and the very different personalities of the characters were the two things that moved the story forward. And I am a big fan of character driven stories. Shalvis had two girls who hated each other at summer camp meet again as adults. Life had not been easy on either of them, but they both thought that other people's lives were better than their own. (And isn't that just something we do?)
Enter a very nice, sexy and handsome Eli, who was linked to both women in the past, and who wanted something more in the present.
A lovely, beautifully written romance that will make your heart soar!

This is listed as #5 in a series, but is definitely stand-alone-enough that I didn't miss a thing. I also realized later one that I read the first book on the series anyway.

I don't know how I would react if I found out I had a half-sister. I feel like that revelation in this book (not a spoiler - it's on the back cover) is handled fairly well. It might help that the Brynn and Kinsey have a history together (although one fraught with hating each other at summer camp) and are adults when the truth comes all the way out. I mean, for the most part they're pretty mature about the whole thing.

That is, until there is no communication at all during the road trip which super bugged me. One of them just goes along with the other's idea to "Let's jump in the car and drive for hours to this end goal that I think will be perfect!" even though she knows full well the end goal will be anything BUT perfect ... and she refuses to take any of the opportunities she's given to explain why. Waste of time and gas money.

Why is so much media founded on frantic but incomplete conversations:

"You have to listen to me!!" [but says nothing]

"You don't understand!!" [but never clarifies]

"I have to tell you something important." [but never gets around to it]

Definitely a beach read! This was a intertwined book with family and two different love stories combined. Some past and present chapters with some heavy issues and HEA’s for both couples!

What did I like? This is storytelling at its finest. I no more than cracked the book when it swept me away. I’m a big fan of this author and this was so good! I love books that seem to come full circle with some amazing scenes.

Would I buy or recommend? Yep, this book screams beach read, from the cover to the final page. I did not want to put it down. Phenomenal story and five stars of entertainment!

Thoughts for the author? Congratulations on your release and I was enthralled. Amazing storytelling. Huge thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC to read and offer an opinion. I loved it!
