3.7 AVERAGE

By the tenth page I was bored to tears.

This was good historical fiction. However, I read it over a month ago, and remember little.

I tried so hard on this one. Read the first third of it three times. After finally figuring out all the characters, who was who, what was going on...I continued. And nothing ever really happened. If this were not my book clubs selection for the month, I would not have finished it.

Oh my gosh, I so wanted to love this book. The setting is lovely, the characters are lovely, and there is a ghost. What is there not to love? It was so slow. I had to skim the last 100 pages.

A lot of story lines to follow but well worth it in the end.

The discovery not actually coming to light at the end was frustrating but I like that readers instead get to imagine what would happen next with Jack and Elodie.

3.5

A sort of classic sort of this type of novel. Sweeping a lot of time and a lot of different people in one house throughout years.
I thought it was heartbreaking in the end, but still wanted more tied ends.

I liked so much about this book. A great story and characters, but the way it was woven together was confusing and the jumping between time and characters was abrupt and unclear. I would have appreciated more help connecting the dots. I was so confused at the beginning I almost set it aside several times. I couldn’t understand why occasionally a section was marked with the season and year, but most sections weren’t marked even though the time may have changed from the previous one. Strange. I usually like books that jump around like this, but this one was just hard to follow. Too bad because, again, the story and characters were compelling.

DNF

This was so good, but by the end I was having trouble remembering all the different parts of the story. Still, Kate Morton did not disappoint!

3.5. Can anyone explain to me how Juliet ended up with a tuppence that was supposedly given to her by Leonard? They just waved at each other in that one scene so that part confused me
