Kiehtova arvoitus, mielenkiintoisia hahmoja mutta ei - kirjoitustyyli tökkäsi ja pahasti. Pitää kaivaa tämä englanniksi esiin ja kokeilla uudelleen, sujuisiko paremmin.
A young lady who had met a tragic end haunts a house and tells her tale in tantalizing tidbits. Her narrative is woven with the stories of a variety of interesting characters, whose lives are intertwined in surprising ways. The settings of the stories range from 1860's to modern times. An old house is the common denominator connecting the characters. Lots of mystery, intrigue, and surprises.
A little hard to follow all the narratives at times, but I enjoyed the story overall.
I love Kate Morton’s books, but I had a hard time following the many storylines in this one. I may just be too scattered right now for more than one storyline!
slow-paced
Beautiful quotes throughout the book, but I didn't want to actually pick up the book. It took me almost a whole day to finish it because I didn't want to pick it up. This easily could have been a higher rating, but the storytelling wasn't there.
I was very excited when I received an ARC of this from Goodreads. I love Kate Morton's writing and have read everyone of her other books. The Forgotten Garden is one of my all time favorite books. With that being said this was not a favorite of mine. I found there were too many time periods and too many characters to keep track of. Additionally, I did not like the ghost story part of the plot. I am sad to say I did not finish it.
Honestly, In the beginning I wasn't sure. I really wasn't. It was a slow start but about 25 pages in I was ready. Once I got to part 4 I was so invested, I HAD to find out what happened to the missing Lilly/Birdie.
I have never read any of Kate Morton's books, and while many said this was not their favorite of hers, as a first for me this was a lovely and intriguing book. While there are a number of characters and labyrinths of their stories for most of the middle of the book, their stories are deeply connected to the House in which this story focuses.
If you have award time following multiple characters this may be a tough read for you. If not, this is a great historical fiction novel; Well written and wonderfully story! Highly recommend :)

Started this for book club and didn't get it finished in time. Don't really remember enough of the book or care about it enough to go back and get caught up enough to finish it.
