Didn't enjoy this one nearly as much as others from Kate Morton.

Overall, despite the gorgeous writing as always, it just didn't click for me - too many characters, the historical fiction elements weren't as compelling as normal, and the ending felt anticlimactic. I even felt bored during the middle sections, which felt like they dragged. Will still continue working through her back catalogue as not every book will be a winner.

I have enjoyed Morton's previous books, but this one felt a little undercooked. I usually like this kind of writing, but I found it hard to keep track in this one.

#Review: *Fiica ceasornicarului*/*The Clockmaker’s Daughter* - Kate Morton
3.9/5✨

My first book from Kate Morton and I must say that have really mixed feelings about this one.🫤

Everything begins when Elodie Winslow finds a couple of things belonging to Edward Radcliffe. From there on a full research is started and Elodie doesn't rest until she finds out the truth about what happened in the past.

The multiple time periods have messed me up a bit because it was a little hard, at some point, to follow the story and the characters. There were too many details to remember, characters to place in the exact period of time and that made me dizzy.

Only the last few chapters were easier to follow because I got a bit used with everything. I was pretty shocked with the events that happened in the past and I felt like my soul broke a little when I've learned about all the facts. It was pretty unexpected and, of course, made me cry.🥺

I don't really know how I feel at the moment about reading something else from the author, but maybe, one day, I'll give it another try.

Kate Morton is one of my favourite authors of all time! I've read all of her books and always buy them the week they get published.

I was trying to read The Clockmaker's Daughter years ago, but I was pregnant and struggling with focus, so I thought it was a me issue. But, it just fell flat for me unfortunately. It is the only novel I haven't loved by Morton, and also the only one I haven't thought of in the days after finishing it.

My main gripe with it was that there were too many characters. Normally this is not a problem for me, but for whatever reason I couldn't always keep up with where certain characters came into it and their relationship to the overall story.

A bit disappointing, however, if I only didn't like 1 out of her 7 novels, I still say she is a favourite author of all time.

Kate Morton is one of my favorite authors. I love the way she weaves the past and the present to create a journey that keeps her reader on the edge of his/her seat. The Clockmaker's Daughter, however, left me not quite satisfied.

The start of the novel is suspenseful and leaves the reader wanting more; however, when new characters are introduced 2/3 of the way through, the novel is less enjoyable and more confusing. Kate Morton usually does a wonderful job tying the pieces together; however, with so many different storylines, this particular novel left many questions left unanswered.

Morton's style of writing is still second-to-none, and I look forward to reading her material in the future. This particular novel is just one of my least favorites.

Love the atmosphere, love the mc’s job, intrigued with the mystery but for some reason it put me into a slump… might pick it up again 😬
