I am 51% into this book and am not sure if I will bother finishing. It started out so well and then started jumping all over the place. What a let down.
I loved this book. I have read some of Kate Morton's books before and was looking forward to reading this one. I expected a generational story-line with a little mystic mystery and I got that, but I was overwhelmed by how good this was. The writing was beautiful and each character finely drawn. Each tale was absorbing and they linked together very cleverly. The story is about a house and the people who occupied it: an artist's muse, a modern day archivist, the pupils and teachers of a school for young ladies, the beneficiaries of a museum trust, an evacuated family, a historian. Each of them linked to the others through the house. It is a wonderful book. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I did not expect it to be a ghost story. Even if there are several storylines along the plot, they are not particularly hard to follow.
I’m not gonna lie. I had to do some research to keep up with the plot and characters because there was a lot going on and I frequently got confused. But once I knew what was going on I absolutely loved this story. The timeline was so elaborate and intricate, how everything was woven together throughout time, and how every character was connected through this one character. Loved it.
Takes place everywhere between 1860s and it 2017 Lots of details, so very challenging to follow up, but in a really good way!
I quite liked the mystery of this book. It was very well written and had me not wanting to put it down at times. Having said that, it took me a few tries to get into it and the ending left me wanting to know more. It was tricky keeping track of the layers and layers of characters throughout the story and how they had related to one another. Overall, it’s definitely clever and I would most certainly recommend it if you like a good mystery.
I know this book doesn't sit with Kate Morton fans as well as her others, but I loved it. It is evenly paced, with several small mysteries that last you to realize there's a big mystery that you're not even sure what it is. I loved the way it all came together; the characters, the house, the ghost, loss and light.
