I started this before the pandemic and then reading pretty much ground to a halt through most of the first 6 months. This book was fine and I wanted to see how it worked out in the end but it didn't really grip me before the pandemic and I am not sure anything could have after the pandemic. It was altogether fine and interesting but not special to me.

Elodie is an archivist who yearns for knowledge. But when she discovers the sketchbook of the famed late artist, Edward Radcliffe, and a photo of a woman who is oddly familiar, Elodie begins her investigation. The story travels back in time and takes on multiple points of view to unravel the mysteries at Birchwood Manor.

The plot was really average and borderline bad. The story seemed to move too slowly and, at times, had too many layers for me. However, Kate Morton’s writing is unparalleled. Her words flow effortlessly and eloquently. As this was my first Kate Morton novel, I would like to read more from her.

I think the story is interesting but the way the other chose to relay it was disjointed. Slow start and unsatisfactory ending

"The Clockmaker's Daughter" is one of those completely satisfying novels that is such a pleasure to spend time with. I always enjoy Kate Morton, but this novel brought in so many interconnected stories that kept you guessing and added to the complexity of the book.

Morton neatly stirs in four additional time periods to the modern story and each one includes its own surprises and spice to the overall tale. Rich and enjoyable, you will savor each layer of this marvelous concoction.

A great read, only to be expected from Kate Morton. BUT twice with the whole letting go of the breath lark nearly made my head go boom.

Complicate, clever and capable of drawing me in, it was well worth my time.

DID NOT FINISH: 31%

I was not in the right headspace to appreciate this book. I always finish books, even if I don’t like them, but I honestly did not have the brainpower to try and follow what was going on in the book. I want to revisit this book at a different time when I can appreciate it more.
