Thank you Nina for the recommendation! I look forward to rereading now that I know that the secret is not a spooky one.

This book made me incredibly uncomfortable. In a good way, I think.

Around the World Reading Challenge: HUNGARY

Really interesting and well-written novel that takes place sometime in post WWII Hungary. The characters are fascinating and the relationships interesting and complex. I often found myself quite frustrated with the characters--all of them, really, but particularly the narrator, who isn't somebody whose traits I personally strongly relate to, though she was sympathetic in her own way. But I thought the narrative was engaging and moving, and the ending lovely and stark. Pleased to have picked this one up!

Really enjoyed this. Very provocative.

Could not recommend highly enough. The NY Times reviewer was spot on when she said that she was haunted by this book and that it altered the way she understood her own life. This one I will be thinking about for a long time.

Time dissolved every time I opened this book, I’d constantly find myself checking the time and being surprised how much had gone by because this book is that captivating

how am I supposed to repair my broken heart after this?

New York Times Review classic A new translation of a contemporary classic from a Hungarian writer. Deceptively complex and stunning.
