Im conflicted about my feelings which sums up my experience throughout the book. I definitely felt like there were some things being said that went over my head. The confusion I felt didn’t put me off which interested and surprised me. There was quite a bit that I liked. I don’t know if this book was meant to be funny but I was laughing at some of the actions with Emerence lol. She was the brunt of my confused feelings throughout most of the book. I enjoyed the writing, but I felt like I might be missing some necessary undertones. I plan to read some into the history of Hungary around this time/ get some literature under my belt and give it another go.

slow-paced

DNF after 130 pages. This book starts off great, but becomes incredibly monotonous and repetitive. Disappointing considering this is her "best work"--or at least her most popular book, but Katalin Street & Iza's Ballad have a much better pace and overall message for that matter.
