These books are the most fun. No, they aren't literary genius, but my god they're enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this book, I was amused all throughout.
Clever aspects I really loved:

- The San Francisco setting!

- The chapters consist of outlined reports written by the narrator, a 30-year-old PI. Very original writing reflecting her own thoughts while she investigates all types of events and people (her family, her neighbor, crimes in the neighborhood…) as she collects clues, evidence, and takes notes that help build the story.

- The chapter’s titles and unchronological organization (providing a sense of suspense) and how straight-forward they were (placing you right in the middle of the unfolding drama) with no time lost as everything is relevant and important info for the plot/characters.

- The meta-fiction. The anti-detective stories jokes. The raw language. The humor. Modern references.

- The funny footnotes!!!

- The transcribed recordings.

- The Suspicious Behavior Reports.

- The emails.

- The protagonist’s 4 arrests and how her personal life is affected by her PI antics.

- The family’s relationships, their inside jokes, and strong personalities in each character.

- The appendix.

- The epilogue and how satisfyingly the conclusion wrapped up in the end.

I liked this book even more than the first book in the series. It was a light, fun read and I just loved the characters. They were crazy and eccentric and their interactions with each other were always unpredictable. I did figure out where the plot was going before the end of the book, but it didn't matter because for me, it was all about the characters! Can't wait to start the next book in the series!

Sequel to the hilarious Spellman Files. I love this family of private investigators, especially the dysfunctionally, incorrigibly curious Isabel.

While I am enjoying this book, I don't like it nearly as much as the first book in the series. Still entertaining and worth a look.

3.5/5 stars. A nice light read with an undercurrent of depth that is surprising.
