I think with a couple more rounds of revisions, this would have been a lot better. There's minimal character development, the plot moves so fast that nothing feels explained, and some of the writing felt unnatural. I did not know that this was planning to have a sequel, and I do not think I will pick it up.

It felt so refreshing to be reading a young readers book again. At first I was confused about some of the characters, but the author points out that this is West African mythology, which I was not familiar with. I have have hopeful theories for the next book. The last 20 chapters or so was where the intensity happens. I cannot wait for the next one!
