This one will hit you right in the feels! I cried a lot!
Hancock draws on her experience as a nurse to tell a love story about a couple with some serious health issues that threaten their health and happiness. All couples have obstacles to overcome, but Lucy and Mickey must manage a family history of cancer on the one side and a family history of mental illness on another.
I have a lifelong friend who has bipolar disorder, as does her mother and one of her four children. This book helps me gain a little more awareness of the challenges of managing such a disease and the strategies that help people stay even. My family has several people who have battled breast cancer, so that dimension also spoke to me.
Hancock does a great job showing how we can live and love despite serious challenges, and she invites outsiders to show greater compassion for those struggling with extreme health challenges.

I liked this book. I kind of really liked it and would have given it a 4 except I knew how it was going to end within the first 50 pages. I wanted to keep reading and enjoyed the love story, but found the characters to be a bit too perfect, particularly Lily and Lucy in comparison to their sister, Priscilla. Enjoyable, quick, easy read.
A well written book giving what truly felt like a glimpse into the mind of a mentally ill man. No way to judge any of their decisions or know what I’d do given the same circumstances. Even with all the instability I️ found the story a little predictable, but still a highly enjoyable and emotional book.
This was a book club pick and everyone's early reaction was appreciation and tears. I didn't cry, at least not at first. I did keep turning the pages, as this story was compelling and hard for me to put down. The story is a love story, of Mickey and Lucy. It is how they rose (and sometimes faltered) to the challenges of loving each other. She has cancer genes. He's bi-polar. They've made promises to each other and the central plot line is what happens when life throws you a curve ball.
I really enjoyed this story. The characters felt true. The narrative was compelling and it drew me into this small town and into this family. This story is so much more than a love story of a man and a woman. It is also the love story of sisters. It was this story and that opened the floodgates for me. As the book progressed,I found myself in the awkward position of riding the train with tears streaming down my face. To evoke that kind of emotion is a sign of a truly good story. While it was sometimes heartbreaking, I really loved this story. I liked the narrative being told in two voices. I loved the characters. I related to them and to this book. It was real and honest and hard and wonderful all in one. I was sad to see it end, because I could have stayed with these characters for a lifetime.

A beautiful but heartbreaking story that was both hard to put down and hard for me to get through at times
This book will stay with me forever. It is a beautiful love story and if you ever need a good cry read this book!! I cried every chapter for the incredible love two people have for each other . Tris is a book with so much depth. If you have sisters you must read this book.
I had a hard time getting through this book. I didn't find the characters very believable. Most of them seemed sort of flat and predictable to me. It was a beautiful story, just not very engaging.
Amazing! This is my new favorite book. Make sure you have tissues handy - it is a definite tear jerker!
