Such a sad book... I didn't realize how emotional it was going to be. Well written, really well done.

This very much felt like a Sunday evening tv movie where people are just a little too perfect. The whole fairy tale bit was just too much. I cry at tv commercials so the sister interactions in this one had me crying like a woman even as I was cringing at their perfection or predictable actions.

This story gave a great example of why I think people cling to religion. Having my mother battling cancer right now I often wonder if it would be easier if I could believe in a god and just hand it all over to 'God's will'. Having someone to rail at, blame, question and ultimately give ownership to might make things easier. For anyone dying or facing the real threat of losing their loved ones or who have already lost someone it would be so much better to 'know' that they still would or still do live on in a happy place full of sunshine and rainbows where everyone who loves each other would be one day reunited. Though I believe that their life just ends and the only place they live on is in the hearts of those that loved them - it is nice every now and then to imagine an alternative.

The deeper look into the mind of someone with bi-polar disorder was well done and I can imagine we will see similar stories from this author - I look forward to them.

dark emotional sad slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Negatives: Very formulaic. I had figured out the entire plot only a few chapters in. It wrapped up way too neatly. Also, the metaphor was overwrought and the characters were one dimensional. Positives: Cried for the last 60 pages, even thoughI knew what would happen. Brainless read, although emotional, if you want a literary “palate cleanser.”

This is one of the BEST books I've ever read. Yes, it was a tearjerker but don't let that keep you from reading this special book. Mickey and Lucy will stay with you long after the last page is read.

Though it made me cry and it was very hard to read because of the emotional subject matter, I really enjoyed this book and read it in a weekend.

I was not sure I could suspend my disbelief, initially, because there are a lot of problems for the main characters: mental illness, cancer, those two diseases ravaging the main characters' families, and a very unlikely pregnancy. But I found it all believable - without their problems, Lucy and Mickey wouldn't have connected as they did, so it became reasonable. This is a beautiful, touching story.

Nope! Formulaic, melodramatic, totally unbelievable.

This book had me flat-out UGLY crying. But I absolutely loved it; the pacing and characters were perfect. Looking forward to any other titles by this author.

This is an emotional roller coaster, as I suppose many of our lives are. It went on a little long, but certainly had me shedding tears as the characters worked their way into my heart.
