My favorite character is Scarecrow! Despite of not having brain, he could bring good ideas others never thought.

This was my second time reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with my daughter. We have previous read the entire series.
The MinaLima special illustrated edition was a real treat. My daughter got a kick out of the new illustrations and the interactive elements. It is a wonderful edition to add to any Oz-lover’s collection.

100 Years, 100 Books

“No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home.”

This is the first work in my odyssey of reading 100 fictional works first published in the 20th century. Baum's "Wizard of Oz" is a darling day-read for an adult. The story itself is simple, as are its moral lessons, but the fantastical setting, cast of characters, and charming episodic-adventures elevate it beyond the caliber of its style. I would recommend this to anyone curious in the source material for its 1939 film adaptation or seeking a bit of childlike whismy.

I am still processing how I feel about this story?

Is it entertaining? Yes. Can I appreciate it as a fun children's classic? Yes.

However, characteristics of the principle characters did not always make sense. There was no real plot / time to develop anything. The book was made up of a quick sequence of events, with scenes of action being sped through in two sentences rather than being described or developed.

On the whole, I just don't know for sure how I feel?

It was pleasant, I was entertained and I'm aware that this is a children's classic but there were somethings that I had a niggling problem with.

4 stars. I loved this. Was a really fun read and I haven’t read it since I was in maybe the third or fourth grade. It still holds up and while the film has a lot of differences, it does also follow the book which is cool. The writing was great in its simplicity, the world of Oz is very descriptive and lively and the characters are so charming and lovable. I plan on continuing with the series and I hope that I’ll enjoy the other books just as much as I did this one.
