A wonderful read aloud with my 6yo. Much less tense and scary than the movie, which he is not ready for.
I read this in one afternoon, and really enjoyed it!

If you love the movie "The Wizard of Oz" and have never read the book, YOU MUST! The beautiful, whimsical world of Oz is so well detailed in L. Frank Baum's own words. The movie sticks to the book for the most part, but the book's sense of adventure is just unbeatable!

Shocking truth about me: I do not like the movie The Wizard of Oz. I know it's a classic, and people love it, but I think it is creepy, and I'm not into it. But I do kind of like the super trippy 1985 movie, Return to Oz, plus it's my ongoing goal to read several classics a year, so I decided to give this a shot. And I liked it better than the movie, but not as much as that other super trippy children's book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (full disclosure-I also hate that movie). It's a little too violent for my kids books taste (many, many heads are chopped off by the Tin Woodman), but there is a lot to love in the characters and the strange land they end up in.

The five year old says- I loved it! The only thing I didn’t like were the Kalidahs because I was afraid they were going to eat me at night.

Not much to say here as this is a classic evergreen story. This particular rendition was very enjoyable with some fun third-wall breaking metajokes sprinkled in very lightly and easy to miss. As for the rest, the voice acting and sound effects are well done.
