This book was immediately well-paced. From the firat page I was pretty much sucked back into this universe. It was very heavy on the politics at times but it worked. Compared the Red Rising and Golden Son, there wasn't a page that wasn't relevant to the story. For sure a couple of paragraphs could have been edited out here and there, but generally speaking, the whole story flowed well chapter to chapter. This book hurt me with some of the character deaths, redemptions, and betrayals, but that makes for a great story.

Where this book loses marks is the battle scenes. Sometimes they are just too...wordy, or like they're trying to achieve too much. I cannot conceptualise half of the scenes in my head, which maybe is a me-problem, but sometimes I just can't picture it and it brings me out of the story a bit. (There was also that "Bye Felicia" moment and I actually took damage from cringing.)

HIS NAME IS PAX 🥹😭

The third and final book of the Red Rising Trilogy ends with a bang. I enjoyed this book so very much. It ties the strings together so neatly that you wouldn't have to read the next trilogy after this if you don't want to (the Iron Gold trilogy). Well-thought-out space battles with plenty of violence. Even if you are moving on to the next era of books in the series, this is a fine end to Darrow's story.
From the start, when he was just a lowly red, to the end, where he is among the greatest iron golds, it has been a journey
. I have enjoyed Darrow's character arc he is now one of the better characters in the books, as I almost hated him in the first book. I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, it is the best in a series of great books. This has made me want to stop reading the rest of the books due to being scared they will not be as good. You can draw your ending to the story without reading further, but I must read the other books! This author is GREAT!

Wow. What an epic ending to this trilogy (yes i know there’s 2 more books later). This story had me shocked and gasping so many times. I felt so drawn to all the characters…even the ones I was supposed to not like Sir Pierce had me thinking like Darrow about a few of them. The adrenaline I felt while reading this is unreal-I’m not sure if the tummy ache I got was the book or all the gummy bears I was stress eating while reading.

Superb ending to one of my favorite series. Incredible risks and payoffs for the characters, who grapple with such real issues and practical difficulties without it getting bogged down. Whenever I had to set it down I needed it back up again

On the whole I liked this one better than Golden Son, but the pretty consistent pop culture references really dragged it down, especially in contrast to the darker tone. Visceral descriptions of physical and psychological torture, then a scene or two later we get a literal Bye Felicia. Meh.

Cassius’s development really cemented him as a favorite, where before my opinion was neutral (leaning negative). I loved the Nakamura siblings as well, fantastic additions to the cast.

The audiobook performance knocks it out of the park, as always.
