I stumbled across this story and I m so thankful I did. I have taken in love with the story line and the characters. This is adult story. No younger than 16 should read this. It is. Wonderful story about two people falling in love and trying to survive and raise their kid. I can not wait to see what happens!

Shoot, I knew I should have ordered volumes 1 and 2 at the same time. This first book had so many unexpected elements and cool world building and magic... I'm hooked!

DID NOT FINISH: 54%

I really was going to force myself to finish this because so many people I know loved it but this was just too weird for me. Not a fan of the NSFW TV heads scene, the scary spider lady freelancer (arachnophobia), and the last strike was the first page of chapter 4 of the two heads on legs.

Artwork is great, story is intriguing. This does not work as a standalone; it compels reading further volumes. It was pretty good! But also, extremely explicit.

Trigger warnings: birth, violence, sex, nudity, entrails, swearing, use of the r-word, implied pedophilia, mention of rape, genocide, war
adventurous dark emotional fast-paced

First - this is a comic designated as "mature". I want to be sure to put that out there, as many of the comics and especially the graphic novels I read are okay for most ages. This one is NOT.

I read the first issue of Saga when it first hit, mostly due to all the controversy over the breastfeeding woman on the cover. I enjoyed it, but I didn't make the time to read the rest of the issues. I'm so glad I snagged this volume of the story, though.

I love how the story is told, switching between characters and with the narrator's voice guiding the tale. The narration is from the POV of the baby girl who is born as the story begins. I felt like her voice was well developed, right from the start, and I'm eager to see where her story takes her. Her parents are also well developed, through images and dialogue. I am fascinated by this world, and the war between the "horns" and "wings".

I'll admit that I'm a bit prudish when it comes to sexual content in a story, and I felt a little awkward while reading some parts of the story. Overall, though, all of the characters and the challenges they face completely won me over.

Can love conquer all? I'll definitely be picking up the rest of this series.

Saga marks my very first read of 2013!

Re-read 13th January 2019-
Upon a re-read this is still brilliant, and I’m glad I did re-read before moving on to the other volumes, because there were so many fantastic details I’d forgotten!
