Amazing art and an interesting premise. I also overall enjoy the creativity that comes with how they have used the pages. The design for all the creatures and characters are unique too. It lost some points with me just because of how women characters seemed more objectified/for the male gaze (lots of titties out for the girlies) but I'm still hooked in enough to see what happens next.

Ok I am hooked. This is how you start a space opera
Compelling right off the bat. A little violent for my taste but did I immediately check out volume 2? Yes.
I've been intending to read this graphic novel story for quite some time, and given it was a focus for ECCC this year I picked up Volume 1 at the University Bookstore booth and read it that very evening.
The story starts off with one of our protagonists, Alana, in childbirth, and zero punches are pulled throughout this scene. The story continues on from there, mixing humor and sarcasm in possibly the best descriptions of new parenthood that I've ever read (given that while I do not have kids, I have several good friends with young babies...). Add in that Alana and her husband Marko are from races that have warred against each other for centuries, and both are being hunted, and you have one hell of an explosive storyline.
I liked the art and layout quite a bit, and it works well to tell the different aspects of the storyline. Of course, if you didn't know already, this is NOT a story for young children, and it's all the stronger for being written and illustrated that way. There are weird aliens, bad guys who are complex and have good hearts, and an obnoxious teenage ghost who is absolutely awesome.
I'll be picking up the next volume of this as soon as I have the free money to do so. I highly recommend it!

I read the first issue for free off my Comixology so when I saw this at the library, I picked it up right away. Weird and inappropriate, it's still Vaughan at his best, maybe the best he's done period. The art is cool, almost story book in nature, but the images are dark indeed. Sort of a science fiction, adults only Princess Bride. Or not. But still good.
I haven't read manga or graphic novels in years but this is bringing me back to it. IT'S AMAZING!!! I CAN'T HANDLE THIS. The artwork is phenomenal and the story is just so appealing. I LOVE the narration and how it's told throughout the story giving you bits and pieces. a;lsdkfja;lkdskldfj just YES.
