AMAZING art, incredibly inventive

Ok, not going to lie, I was kind of scared to read this. If you're some how not aware, Saga has a lot of hype. Like A LOT. I was scared that it wouldn't live up to all the love and praise it receives from practically everyone. So I was pleasantly surprised (read - relieved) that I really enjoyed it!

The artwork is great, the different races and alien types were wonderfully creative (I especially loved the design of The Stalk and the 'greeters' of Sextillion - one was super cool and bad-ass, the other super silly and fun!)

Our main small cast of characters all have individual motives, storylines and personalities, so I 'm looking forward to seeing all of these develop

It is a very interesting story, I really hope it has a good ending, I'm already invested.

When I was in college, I dated a 'Deadhead' of sorts. He was always smoking weed and tripping on acid. Once, we got together on a Saturday night and he had some extra acid. He asked if I wanted any and I said, "I'll try anything once".

This book looks like when I was on that trip. Nothing looked right and some of it made sense.

I was that I should totally get into this book by two hot chicks from work and I read it. Mistake #1-read it on the bus. And, when the orgy scene came, let's just say a horny teenager was pretty much breathing on the back of my neck, no matter how hard I curled the pages in. Otherwise, in my love of zombies, all things post apoc and horror, I found myself worried about what was happening next.

Basically two beings get together in the midst of a war and do everything wrong. They were off the grid for awhile but as always, in the future or past, somewhere an ATM catches a picture of them and their idealic life is over. Now they are on the run from bounty hunters (Freelancers) trying to raise their child in safety.

The writing is good. The art work is pretty good. I guess I just wanted more background on the characters (why does she have wings? why does he have horns?) They also meet a lot of strange and fun 'people' on the way-like the ghost child that wants to help them but always require they give them something first.

I am looking forward to issue 2 and I hope one of those hot chicks will let me read issue 3.

Somehow, despite being the rather huge nerd that I am... this is my first graphic novel. I can't imagine why. It's visual art and verbal art together, in one cohesive entity. Where have I been?!
Anywho... Saga was a great place to start. It starts and ends too quickly and leaves you aghast that you read something clearly proclaiming itself to be merely the beginning before the next chapter exists. The story draws you in, immediately. I love that the story is being told by the child, who is newborn at the outset... so we get to grow up with her, learn with her, cheer for her, mourn with her, love her. The art is imaginative and lovely. The narrative is engaging. The tale is.... barely beginning. Damn you, brand new series that is not
written all at once, so that I can get lost in you from start to finish right NOW! You've hooked me.

Wow. Read the first issue a while back and just reread that one and the next five. This is a wildly imaginative setting with fantastical characters and a moving story.

Oh. My. GOD. This is the greatest thing that has walked into my life today. I am so so so glad I bit the bullet and bought the first three volumes. The artistry is beautiful, gorgeous, stunning! The storyline and worlds that have been created are utterly fascinating and imaginative. The characters? THE CHARACTERS? I love them all. Each one is arresting for their sheer biology, their exquisite being on the page. The story of a quick-draw newlywed couple and their recent baby, being nannied by a ghost? That are conscientious deserters of a racially-charged war?! WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE.

Crazy, weird, brilliant and yet so funny and strangely relatable. I don't really know what else to say.
