A nice book
I would rate this book a 3.5. The story is surely good with a royal feel. The scenes are royal and elegant. But I didn't find the story that interesting. The chapters are short and easy to read, but the chapters aren't that interesting. I wish I could see atleast 1 complete love story in this book.
Jameson and Hollis made a nice couple but it would be better if Jameson wasn't a king.
Silas and Hollis shared a sweet and comforting love which is beautiful in its own way.
The book showcase many stories simultaneously some of which left untold.
Somewhere I found hollis to be self centered but she's not she nice and selfless.
Overall the ending is beautiful and it showcase a new begning. Must try reading it if like royal scenes and stories without much drama.

Spoiler
I like the beginning of the story it's elegant and royal. Hollis and Delia grace friendship is so beautiful. Jameson and hollis made a good couple and that lasted until Silas moved to Corroa with his family. Although eastoffe family is so kind and courageous. Silas and Hollis had a bond since then.
I didn't like kind quinten he's some mean and selfish man who wants nothing more than crown. Valentina is such a sweet and beautiful girl. I felt sad for her. Although hollis and Valentina got to become good friends. Delia grace was a good friend to hollis but she has her own motives. Tho j can't blame her as it's her past that has shaped her this way.
The moment when Silas asked hollis to come with him and she agreed was the most beautiful moment and Jameson letting hollis go showcase that Jameson loved hollis as well. Hollis and Silas wedding started as a beautiful moment and ended as a nightmare. Eventually destiny doesn't go the way she had planned to go.

"I just needed you to know that, even though I don’t feel you, I’m going to remember you. And if I one day find the will to love again, I will only know if it’s love . . . because you taught me what that was. Before you, every glimpse I’d seen of it was a lie. And I didn’t know that until you came into that room, holding a golden sword, silent and proud. You took me without a single word. I don’t know if I ever told you. I was yours from the very start. From the second our eyes met, I was lost for you. And you promised to love me without condition, and you did. Thank you so much, Silas. Thank you"

These lines is like a summary of hollis and Silas love story. Silas taught Hollis how to love unconditionally.
And the same love hollis gave to Lady easyoffe and scarlet by going to isolte and she did what Silas would do for his family.
I love loving nature of Silas, Hollis's hope and will to keep trying. I love each and every character of this story except King quinten

But I wish someday, somewhere hollis and Silas will reunite to complete their love story.

I’m so SAD! I love the author’s other works — the Selection is one of my favorite series, but this felt so bland! I really wanted to love this but I just couldn’t. It seems to be a trend in these reviews to dislike Hollis, the main character, but I didn’t hate her. I just felt no emotional attachment to any of the characters, and a bunch of plot points seemed to be just thrown in there.
Also... the ending??? I may just be a sucker for a happy ending but to kill off 90% of the characters 35 pages to the end??? Upsetting. 2 stars barely.

When I first started this book, I wasn't sure that I was going to like it. But by the end of it, I'm pretty sure I love it, and I'm definitely, absolutely hooked!

Hollis Brite (whose name unfortunately makes me think of Rainbow Brite and not a sophisticated young woman) has recently left King Jameson infatuated. Though Jameson has been a bit of a player of late, dating one girl for a while before moving on to the next, Hollis has snagged his attention with her humor, her laughter, and her beauty. However, as Hollis seems on track to be the next queen of Coroa, she meets a family from a neighboring country, including their oldest son, Silas. In the midst of her heart fighting between an elevated position and love, Hollis also must face and come to terms with the realities of what being a queen - and being wife to Jameson - would mean for her.

Full disclosure: the first third to half of the book feels so achingly like The Selection that it's ridiculous. The only difference is that Hollis is falling for the "poor" boy instead of the reverse this time around. Hollis seems rather vapid, too, for much of our book, and though I never disliked her, at first I found myself a bit bored. However, if you're able to push past the initial boredom and cheesiness (Hollis thinks Silas's blue eyes are special! Because apparently no one has them in her country, which is one thing, of course, but she couldn't be more basic if she tried!), then this book actual takes a pleasant turn into something inherently more feminist, enjoyable, and compelling.

The real story begins when Hollis chooses to follow her heart or her head. I won't spoil that choice for you (but know I did think it was done rather quickly, with not nearly enough build-up for my taste), but I will say that her choice leads the story to a path I didn't foresee, and one that makes me suddenly much more interested the trajectory of this series. What makes this feminist - especially considering the 15th century setting - is the way Hollis commands her own destiny in a time when many women were unable to do so - or, at least, not as outwardly as Hollis does. And when the plans change, she takes it in stride and follows her choices once more.

I wasn't sure I could find more than a historical version of The Selection here, but I was pleasantly surprised that this turned into something more. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series to see what happens next!

I received this book from Edelweiss and Harper Collins in exchange for an honest review.

I wish it was longer to flesh out some points, as a lot of things seem to have happened out of nowhere. The main character is kind of annoying.

My expectations were pretty low already but this book still managed to disappoint me.
The romance is soooooo boring and pointless. The development of the book is so slow you want to sleep during the entire book. It has no original phrases or scenes. It’s so cliche. The characters have no personality.
I’m so disappointed I can’t even say. Hated every word, and don’t even get me started on the predictable yet boring ending.
My strong advice is don’t waste your valuable time on this book, if I could give 0 stars I totally would.
I loved the selection so I can’t believe is the same author.

I made it through 50% and then decided I've officially grown out of most YA books. Sorry Kiera the Selection was amazing but this just... wasn't.
