I'm not sure why I keep reading these ridiculous, unrealistic, error-ridden books...

i’m really moving my way through this series! they’re great quick reads. this one develops the “what adults can you trust” theme even further as the original main character luke/lee goes to live with lee’s family and meets lee’s younger brother, smits. can’t wait for the next one!

My favorite of the series so far.

This one was pretty good.

Luke/Lee finds out that Lee’s younger brother Smits is coming to Hendricks School. No one knows why. He shows up with a bodyguard, Oscar. He immediately acts like the Baron that he is, thinking he is better than everyone else. He does pretend that Luke is his brother Lee and little by little Luke begins to tolerate Smits and even enjoys hearing all of Smits stories about when they were kids at home.

After an incident, Smits’ parents want him to come home and they also request that Lee come home. Again, no one knows why. So Luke has to go live with the Grants and continue to pretend he’s Lee.

It’s Luke’s first time in a Baron home and he’s taking it all in. He learns of the reason Mr. And Mrs. Grant want home home and it’s not good. He learns more about the real Lee. He learns about Oscar’s true intentions. He comes to even feel like Smits is his brother.

Lots of bad things happen but at the end Luke actually gets to go home and see his family.

This book was different from the previous three in that it really did not center around the plight of shadow children, but it was about the beginning stages of government insurrection. It was interesting, and certainly kept me engaged. Once again, I was happy to see the return of some familiar characters. The ending of this book was the best one yet, and I think if I stopped at this book I could be content, but I am still curious about what happens next, so onto the next book!

Perilous ending. I don't think kids under ten should read this one. And I started the fifth one but couldn't take it anymore, so I didn't finish it.

Mini review
I really liked this. Luke is very different than he was in the first book, and is a lot braver. This should've been first person pov, imo, but third was fine too. This one had less scary stiff and violence than some of the others, so it could be more appropriate for younger readers. But don't let the middle grade label fool you. This is more ya than mg, I would definitely hesitate to let anyone under twelve read this.
