wrapping my head around how a biopic was not actually an irl biopic but was a biopic nevertheless

this was my first read through a documentary style book and it took me a bit to get into it but then i really did. then taylor jenkins reid had to throw that curveball of “the author”?! did not see that coming but it was sweet. the characters felt real, loved the interview style writing and the tone of the whole book. i really got invested even though this genre isn’t usually in my typical reading haunts. good time

This book accurately depicts the complex nature of humans and the messy relationships we have. It doesn't have a classic happy ending but it has a realistic one.
The characters were so real and different from one another.

The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because it didn't make me cry.
7HoEH made me cry like crazy, and while this is emotional, it didn't push me river the edge.

Obsessed. Completely and utterly.

I seemed to devour this. I loved the interview writing style, which made this very bingeable. I loved the cast of characters, and the twists and turns that make them up. I was routing for them all in my own way. I’m a sucker for the 1970’s so the setting was an absolute dream for me. And I loved that this wasn’t a traditional love story. The love/hate relationship between Daisy and Billy had me every step of the way.

And most of the little twists at the end! So brilliantly executed, and they came seemingly out of nowhere. This will definitely be a reread for me at some point as I would love to read this knowing what happens at the end for any clues.

I found the narrative not centring Daisy towards the end a lil disappointing but the perspective of a young artist beautiful.
the twist at the end made it feel like the plot of how I met your mother like this guy was a jerk why do we care again? But at the same time it brought tears to my eyes and made me want to reread it so unconvlusive feelings< /spoiler>

This is the first time I have read a book in this type of interview formatting and I found it interesting. It was hard and confusing to get into at first as I was listening to it but slowly I got the hang of it and familiarised myself with the casts’ voice. I liked the storyline and how it is very much character driven and the characters have great developments throughout the story and I liked how they have real problems that real musicians may be experiencing in their careers. If I’m a musician, I would feel seen and less alone when reading this book.
I did not rate it higher as this type of realism genre is not my go-to genre. I prefer more plot-driven novel. However, I can recognise and appreciate the comfort and elements of this type of genre provide. It is a great story overall.
